Rapunzel to Mother Gothel Rapunzel is the title protagonist of the 2010 Disney animated film Tangled. She is the princess of the kingdom of Corona, known for her magical long golden hair. As a child, Rapunzel was kidnapped by an evil old woman and hidden in a secluded tower for eighteen years, during which time she became fascinated with the mystery of the "flying lights" that only appeared on her birthday. With the help of the charming thief Flynn Rider, Rapunzel escaped the tower to solve the mystery of the lights and fulfill her lifelong dream of exploring the world beyond its walls. Eighteen years before the main events of Tangled, the rulers of the kingdom of Corona, King Frederic and his wife Arianna, were expecting their first child, but late in her pregnancy, the queen unfortunately fell gravely ill.
