Appearance (Demon)

Kokushibo was a Demon who maintained his human features despite having devoured countless people for 400 years. He maintained a number of rather unusual characteristics: he was a tall man, with a pale skin tone and an athletic and muscular build; his hair was long and black with burgundy edges, held in a long ponytail that reached almost to the height of his lower back. On his face, he possessed a series of flame-like markings that covered the left side of his head and the right side of his neck; these markings were, in his time as a human, his Hunter's Mark. Kokushibo's most emblematic feature and, in turn, one of his most sinister identifying marks were his three pairs of eyes lacking eyebrows which had a yellowish tint in their irises and a red sclera divided into segments. In the center eyes, his numbering as the Upper Moon One is located, identified with the kanji for First Crescent (壱上弦,, Ichi Jōgen?) indicating his dominant position within the Upper Moons. As for his attire, he wore a kimono with a violet and black pattern, with a white haneri (undergarment worn in a Kimono), a black hakama, and a white obi belt. He possessed a katana made from his own flesh and bones, which was completely decorated with eyes on the cutting blade, the Tsuba, and the Tsuka. The guard was also covered in flesh and eyes to fully increase his degree of peripheral vision. After Sanemi and Himejima were able to decapitate him, Kokushibo managed to regenerate his head, transforming his body into a completely grotesque version of himself, with several fangs emerging from his mouth, a pair of horns coming out of his head, and several sharp appendages.

Appearance (Human)

When he was a human, his appearance was practically identical to his current form without having his current features as a demon. His eyes, eyebrows, and hairstyle were completely different. His eyes were dark-hued, his eyebrows were thin and fine, and his hair was completely black.

Personality pt 1

Kokushibo was a reserved being shrouded in utter mystery. At the Upper Moons meeting, he was shown to be punctual, respectful of the rules[5] and placed a high value on the hierarchy of the Twelve Demonic Moons. He was also humble, as he did not hesitate to admit failure or complain about any difficulties, rather than acknowledge the strength of his opponent. He has shown a strong sense of loyalty towards Muzan Kibutsuji, and most of his actions were done with the sole purpose of fulfilling Muzan's goals. Despite exhibiting an outward reserve and humility, he was also quite cold: his words could be harsh, especially when reprimanding people. His threats are nothing short of cruel and overwhelmingly serious, and he demands absolute obedience. He has a complex relationship with his human past. He shows some warmth towards his descendant, Muichiro Tokito, praising his skills and resolve, and is bent on turning Muichiro into a demon to save his life. At the same time, he refers to Muichiro and his abilities as the natural result of his "cells" being passed down. As a result, it is unclear whether he has any true attachment to him or if it is the result of disproportionate narcissistic pride. Watching the two demon slayer brothers, Sanemi Shinazugawa and Genya Shinazugawa, makes him nostalgic. Fighting Sanemi made him remember dueling against an ancient Wind Pillar to improve his skills. It is revealed that during his past as a human, he harbored a huge grudge of spite and envy towards his younger twin brother, Yoriichi Tsukiguni, due to the natural talent and abilities he had since birth. These feelings of jealousy and contempt were eventually further intensified by seeing his brother grow older and having survived said age despite awakening his Demon Slayer Mark that would supposedly doom him to death at the age of 25.

Personality pt2

However, despite this anger he held towards his brother for their difference in skill, he was shown to still care for Yoriichi despite dismantling his corpse after he died, keeping the carved wooden flute he made for him as a memento of his memory for years to come and expressing genuine regret for the path he chose. In his duel against Gyomei Himejima, his banter suggests a fear of the idea of death. When Gyomei's marks appear, Kokushibo preemptively mourns the loss of a talented fighter and urges him to become a Demon in order to continue honing his skills. He appears genuinely surprised when Gyomei vehemently rejects his offer and calls his mindset pathetic. Likely as a result of his inferiority complex and immense desire for strength, Kokushibo feels fear at the possibility of suffering defeat, so much so that he becomes increasingly aggressive and agitated when cornered, evidence of which is the degree of aggressiveness in his attacks when in that situation and the use of his demonic power. It is revealed that as a human, Kokushibo harbored an immense feeling of envy towards his younger twin brother for his natural talent and incredible abilities. These feelings of jealousy and contempt only grew stronger as he watched his brother grow into an unrivaled warrior of unmatched caliber even among the Demon Extermination Corps, with none of the Pillars coming close to matching his level of strength. This envy reaches its peak when he discovers that Yoriichi is still alive and old, despite the fact that the Mark's curse was supposed to kill him before he turned 25. However, despite his envy and hatred towards his brother, Kokushibo still cares for his younger brother, which is evident when, after cutting up his corpse, he realizes that Yoriichi still had the hand-carved flute.

Personality pt3

made by him, which makes Kokushibo break down in tears for the death of his brother, understanding that despite everything, he loved him, so for the following centuries, he chose to keep the flute that he made for his brother as a souvenir. During his battle with the pillars, he comes to realize the high price he had to pay for the strength he so desired, becoming a hideous monster far from his idealized dream of a strong samurai like his brother, symbolizing how much his deep ambitions and resentment have warped him in the worst ways. Later, after his death, he greatly regretted and regretted the choices in his life and began to openly question whether the path he had walked was truly the right one.
