Mufasa King

INFORMATION ABOUT

Mufasa is a major character in Disney's 1994 animated feature film The Lion King. He was a large and powerful lion who once served as king of the Pride Lands. Revered as a wise and noble leader, Mufasa dedicated his reign to upholding the "circle of life" and guiding his only son, Simba, to one day assume the throne. Mufasa's younger brother, Scar, was secretly jealous of the king and orchestrated a regicidal coup to steal the throne. Despite his death, Mufasa lives on in the memories of his loved ones. His spirit manifests itself in clouds, stars, and sunlight, which occasionally appears to guide his descendants.

PERSONALITY

Wise, confident, strong, aspiring, dignified, protective, powerful, fatherly, understanding, rational, just, playful, loving, humble, optimistic, bold, patient, grumpy (occasionally), instructive, powerful, sensible, inspiring, commanding, regal, selfless, strict, forgiving. Despite his majestic exterior, Mufasa is kind-hearted and playful, showing respect for all creatures, even those perceived as inferior to him. He is not strictly businesslike, often joking with his butler Zazu, and is not afraid to show affection, as seen when he greets Rafiki with a hug before Simba's presentation. As a king and father, Mufasa is instructive and wise, backed by years of experience and instruction. His rule over the Pride Lands results in a period of prosperity, reflecting his reasonable and responsible approach to kingship. His lessons leave a deep impression on Simba, who learns from his father that every creature must be respected in order for balance to be maintained. His wisdom touches on his understanding of responsibility and his willingness to set aside personal gain to improve the Pride Lands. Mufasa is ultimately portrayed as an "ideal king"; powerful but kind, which contrasts with Scar's deceitfulness and lust for power.

Mufasa was born the first son of Ahadi and Uru on Pride Rock to Taka's older brother, and as heir to the throne of Pride Rock, while his younger brother served as leader of the Lion Guard. When the two were teenagers, Taka returned to Pride Rock after a solo patrol in the Shadowlands. He informed Mufasa of his victory over an unknown lion's attempt to take over the Pride Lands. In response, Mufasa jokingly nicknamed him "Scar", after the facial injury he received from the incident. However, Scar has become increasingly jealous of his brother's position, partly due to the poison in his wound, and attempts to overthrow him using his roar, but ends up losing for doing so. A little while later, a red-billed hornbill named Zazu was almost being cooked alive by hyenas until Mufasa scares them away, leaving Zazu grateful and hoping that he can be of use to the future king, which he doubts, Zazu eventually follows him making the future king tired, Zazu disturbing his hunting and his primate time with his future mate Sarabi. One day, Zazu notices some vultures hovering and asks Mufasa if he wants to fly over and see what's going on, but he isn't worried and decides to take a nap, but later tells Mufasa that Sarabi is trapped in a well and can't but Zazu finds a tree trunk, which ends up saving Sarabi, and Mufasa realizes that Zazu is useful around and appoints him as a royal advisor, after his father's death he becomes the new king of the Pride Rock, soon after had a son named Simba which makes Scar even more jealous knowing that his nephew will inherit the throne one day and he couldn't.

DEVELOPMENT

In earlier scripts for the film, Mufasa was not supposed to be related to Scar, as Scar was supposed to be a rogue lion who wanted to be king because he was jealous of Mufasa's fortune and position. Additionally, Mufasa was originally not supposed to appear again after his death in the stampede, but in the final draft of the film, it was decided to bring him back through Simba's visions, as the writers thought that without his presence, Simba would have no reason to return to the Pride Lands. Additionally, Scar and he were made to be brothers in the final revisions of the script.

PHYSICAL APPEARANCE

Mufasa has amber-gold fur, while his muzzle, paws, and belly are all beige. The upper eye patches are darker than his main coat, the lower halves are lighter, and his eyebrows are thick and black. Majestic in every way, Mufasa sports a thick, dark scarlet mane that extends to the middle of his chest, the tip of his tail matching the color. Mufasa was the 4th greatest king of the Pride Lands, his mane was extremely voluminous. He was a genetic anomaly, standing 3 meters long and weighing 290 kg, a true monster.
