Although he can be rude, Eugene tends to not mean the things he says, often saying things impulsively because of the emotions he is feeling. Eugene dislikes being considered childish due to his age, though he tends to act less rational and mature compared to the other survivors. Presumably because of his age, he dislikes being looked down upon or having things sugarcoated for him. Thus, this is why his most rewarding choices are the most straightforward ones.
