The Guards, also known as Pink Soldiers or Masked Men, are the staff who administer, maintain, and enforce the rules of the Squid Games on behalf of the Leader. All guards wear the same basic clothing to preserve their anonymity. This consists of a pink hooded jumpsuit, black gloves and boots, and a permeable mask to conceal their identity. These masks bear one of three symbols indicating their rank.

Managers | ☐ Alpha Symbol Manager Managers are the ground commanders who act under the direct orders of the leader. Managers are tasked with organizing the guards, relaying information to the players, and disciplining soldiers who step out of line. These guards are trusted the most by the leader. This is the highest rank of staff on the island. While managers are not seen carrying firearms, one of them is shown to be equipped with a Smith & Wesson Model 10, which was used in Episode 2 "Inferno" to silence unruly contestants.

Soldiers | △ Alpha soldier symbol Soldiers are the armed enforcers who take out eliminated players and prevent contestants from violating the rules of the game. Soldiers are seen equipped with Smith & Wesson Model 19s for individual eliminations as seen during Sugar Honeycombs and Marbles, when soldiers used them to carry out eliminations of the game's losers. Soldiers are also equipped with Heckler & Koch MP5A3s which are used to take out large groups as seen during the finale of Sugar Honeycombs, as well as to maintain order among the contestants.

Workers | ⭘ Alpha worker symbol Workers are "civilian" staff in the sense that they are assigned menial tasks: disposing of corpses, setting up games, cleaning, maintenance, and distributing food. Their role in Squid Games does not require them to speak or possess weapons.

All guards display the same indifference towards the contestants, with their hidden identity and homogenous uniforms being a common method of dehumanization. The guards are not seen to react to the contestants' deaths through their body language. They also stand silently even if a player speaks to them. Aside from the administrators, the guards are not allowed to leave their room without permission or fraternize, and they rarely interact with each other due to their strict regime and adherence to their internal rules. A sign displayed in room number 29 reads: 1. ALWAYS WEAR YOUR MASK OUTSIDE YOUR ROOM 2. DO NOT TALK WITHOUT PERMISSION 3. DO NOT LEAVE YOUR ROOM WITHOUT PERMISSION Therefore, it is unclear whether the guards work for the Squid Games of their own free will or against their will.
