Physical Appearance

For his facial features, he has a human face with pronounced facial bones and cheekbones. Shinigami has organized, stringy-white hair, pale skin, haunting red irises, a toothy smile, and a pair of black horns. For his adornments, he wears a scarlet beaded red Akuma necklace, giving off a bright shine. He wields what appears to be a scythe-like weapon with a long, sharp, black end. In Jealousy's Book: Chapter III, he has a human face with more pronounced facial bones and cheekbones, also he is seen wearing a long, black robe with a hood that covers his head now. Instead of his orange beaded necklace, he has a black beaded necklace instead, much like Enzukai's. His hair is also noticeably longer now.

Extremely fast and aggressive: Just like this outdated version, Shinigami will actively search for the player and is faster than the player. When a chase sequence is initiated, the player's FOV will expand to an extent. A similar detail when running away from some monsters. Shinigami is quite similar to Mihari and Taiyo because he will also disappear and reappear while chasing the player—however, he is somewhat semi-transparent. His line of sight is enormous. It is impossible to outrun Shinigami unless you are close to a safe zone which is a tall white burning lantern. If he notices a player that stands next to the burning lantern after this, he can chase him for a little part of the time the player needs max concentration to avoid his dashing, and if the player isn't caught, Shinigami will return to his AI path.

He spawned in the centre room of his map and the player(s) had enough time to collect some orbs next to his Throne, he went to the arm-tree room and after this in the main room with his throne.

He spawns behind the player after a cutscene where Shinigami takes his scythe and jumps on a player. The player should be fast to hide behind the little hill or distant column next to the throne

He is inspired by a few Urban Legends. In Japanese folklore, the Shinigami (死神) are supernatural gods, a kin to the Grim Reaper, that invite humans to their death. Shinigami also means "death spirit" or "death god" so this is most likely why fans of the game give him the nickname “Grim Reaper". A few players mistook that his name was Jigoku. However, this was not true as he states he was the ex-ruler of Jigoku, not that it was his name. It has been speculated that the Evil God might have rebelled against and dethroned Shinigami, taking his role as the leader of Jigoku. It is still unknown what happened between the two evil spirits.

He is one of the few monsters that bear a weapon. The others are Futao, Mote, Kusonoki and Bugi. Oftentimes, he is mistakenly referred to or assumed as a female for whatever reason. A few fans also mistook him for Enzukai due to their similar physiques, although Enzukai's design changed when chapters of Jealousy's Book were released. In the official Discord server, MUCDICH leaked Shinigami’s lantern but his lights are white instead of pink. Shinigami was formerly the fastest monster in the game (as of Halloween Event 2021) with his roaming speed being forty eight and his chasing speed being fifty three. Initially, thirty orbs needed to be collected to obtain the badge and lantern. However, that number was bumped up to thirty five.

His previous chase theme is "The Final Chase" from Amnesia's custom story "The Great Work." Saigomo and Shinigami don’t have the same chase theme. Shinigami controls Hiachi in the gym part of Nightmare I instead of Kintoru. She can be found roaming around the gym, weeping sorrowfully in a low pitch while trying forcefully to prevent us from unlocking the door to the Sakura tree area. However, this is temporarily exclusive for the 2021 Halloween Event and has been absent ever since that event ended.
