Appearance

Toru is a rather short girl with a completely invisible body. She is only identifiable through held or worn objects, such as pieces of clothing and accessories, and when she is clothed, her body appears to be slim but quite curvy. Due to the nature of her Quirk, her Hero Outfit consists only of a pair of blue gloves, decorated with pale pink lines and light brownish-gray lace-up shoes, and being completely naked otherwise. Her Winter Outfit changes her shoes to flat knee-high boots and slightly thicker looking gloves with a different color scheme and design, while remaining bare throughout the rest of her body. Thanks to the color cover of Chapter 368 of the manga, we know what Toru really looks like without her quirk activated. She has a curvy and attractive appearance, with a flat stomach and cute navel, sporting greenish hair with some pink streaks and her eyes are light blue.

Personality

Toru is a cheerful and easy-going girl who does most things with an optimistic attitude, even if she is manipulated into doing so. She is very socially anxious and seems like she likes shopping. Her room suggests that she likes stuffed animals and other cute things. She believes that removing her clothes during battle is a tactical advantage, much to the discomfort of those around her. She seems blissfully unaware of what it means to be invisible, such as showing a bit of embarrassment at the thought of being seen undressing; a trait that she appears even when she wears her hero costume, which has almost no clothes in the first place. Overall it seems that Toru's invisible body is used primarily as a source of comic relief.

Don

Invisibility: Toru's Quirk is that her body is completely invisible. It is unknown if it is permanently active or can be activated and deactivated at will, but she has been shown to remain invisible while unconscious or asleep. Light Refraction: Toru bends light through his invisible body, blinding those nearby.

Curiosities

At first Toru's costume had more accessories than just a pair of gloves and boots, she was supposed to wear some kind of mask with a smiley face on it and her gloves were made to have mirrors attached to them. According to Toru's Volume 2 profile: Toru was supposed to be a male character at first, but Kohei Horikoshi made her a woman because he thought a girl who had an invisible body was a funnier concept. There was also a lack of female characters at the time. Toru's favorite food is candy. Toru's favorite things are dokkiri (hidden camera surprise pranks). Toru's surname contains the kanji for "leaf" (葉ha) and "to disappear" (隠gakure), and his first name contains "transparent" (透tōru). When read as one word, Toru's surname means "hidden in the leaves" (葉隠hagakure). Likely a reference to a GK Chesterton quote "Where does a wise man hide a leaf? In the forest."
