Persona Attributes

biography

Nick Lightbringer (real name Norbert Pickles) is a character from We Happy Few. He is a famous, if somewhat faded, rock star and celebrity idol in Wellington Wells. Nick and his band, The Make Believes, wrote many popular songs during their active career in the 1950s and early 1960s. Some of the songs can be heard on the radio or from loudspeakers throughout Wellington Wells. He is a recurring minor character in the main campaign and the protagonist of the Lightbringer expansion.

appearance

Nick had a shock of brown hair and green eyes. He was wearing a red matching suit with white double-layered lace cuffs and a tie around his neck, striped trousers and brown shoes.

Action I

Nick Lightbringer was supposed to host a game of Simon Says at St. Genesius Church, but he never showed up. This prompts Arthur Hastings to go after him, and he heads to Lightbringer's house. Once Arthur manages to enter Nick's house, he finds that Nick has become an emotional wreck, apparently suffering from depression. This is evident from the countless Joy pills, empty glass bottles, and empty pill bottles scattered throughout the house. Arthur finds Nick in the living room, sitting on the couch, holding a battery, and looking rather exhausted. He tries to distract Arthur by telling him about a pack of non-existent animals behind him. Arthur tries to sober him up with the idea of taking a bath and drinking tea, which the rock star agrees to, but since Nick is still out of his mind from substance abuse, he enters the bath fully clothed, still clutching the battery in his hand. Arthur tries to warn Nick about the Power Cell, but Nick brushes it off, stating "I'm not going to drink that." before accidentally slipping and dropping the Power Cell into the water, causing him to receive a massive electric shock that kills him. In response, Arthur comes up with the idea to don Nick's clothes, mask, and hairstyle to pose as the Lightbringer and begin playing Simon Says.

act II

Sally Boyle visits Nick's house to get a recording for Helen Faraday, where she finds Nick lying in the bathtub. Since Sally has a history with Nick and knows that he often passes out when she comes to his house, she assumes that Nick simply passes out and continues her search for the Unicorn Song, unaware of the events that led to him ending up in the bathtub.

Light-bearer

The Lightbringer expansion is what immediately follows Nick's death in the bathtub from Act I, where he is staying at the Avalon Hotel for an upcoming concert. Virgil Dainty, Nick's former agent, helps Nick remember what happened to him and avenge his death, and under his guidance Nick goes on a journey and ends up in Heaven.

add. information

Nick plays his guitar with his left hand and tosses his gold records with his right, suggesting that he is ambidextrous. Nick never actually wanted to cheat on his wife with his fans, he only did what the fans expected of him. This is shown repeatedly throughout the DLC. The name "Nick the Lightbringer" has some very dark connotations, as "Old Nick" is slang for Satan (the Devil), and "Lightbringer" refers to Lucifer, the archangel who rebelled against God, was cast out of heaven, and became the Devil. The Lightbringer expansion, in which Nick plays a major role, is also based on The Divine Comedy, with additional religious references throughout the expansion. These connections may be due to the fact that the rock and roll genre was considered "the devil's music" throughout the 1900s.

add. information

The news article about the game over death screen states that Nick has gone on a world tour. It's highly likely that the outfit Nick wears is a reference to Austin Powers' iconic velvet suit, specifically the red version. Nick's pants are striped, unlike Austin's suit, which is white, blue, and red. The jacket also has white buttons and piping, unlike Austin's suit, because it is a re-texture of the real suit. In Nick the Lightbringer's house, there is a compliment machine by the front door, which the player can only access using console commands. When examining Nick's body in Act I as Arthur, it says he is "Dead", implying he died from electrocution. However, in Act II, when examining Nick's body as Sally, it says he is "Unconscious". It is possible that Sally only assumes that he is unconscious because she knows that Nick is a heavy drug addict who tends to pass out whenever she visits him, but since Arthur witnessed the accident happen in front of him, he is sure that he is dead. Motilene has been consistently proven to be dangerous and deadly. The liquid is highly flammable and is the cause of many fires and explosions, and gaseous vapors from motilene spills can cause poisoning, unconsciousness, and death. Because of its high electrical energy, it causes a fatal electric shock when in contact with water. Claude François, considered by many to be the French equivalent of the Beatles, died while trying to fix a light bulb while in the bathtub. It is possible that Nick's death in Act I is a reference to Claude's death.
