Persona Attributes

general

Tobio Kageyama (影山飛雄, Kageyama Tobio) is a professional V-League player and a former student of Karasuno High School. He in turn is currently a member of Schweiden Adlers in which he usually plays as Point Guard. He is the co-star of the Haikyū!! manga and anime. He was initially introduced as the "King of the Court", a derogatory nickname given to him by his former Kitagawa Daiichi teammates due to his authoritarian way of directing the team. He is considered a Volleyball prodigy by many players and coaches in his prefecture and throughout Japan. Thanks to his new Karasuno teammates, Kageyama manages to change his attitudes and finally understand what it means to be part of a team. He was summoned to the Japanese Youth National Team Training Camp, which leaves indications of the enormous future that Kageyama has for Volleyball.

appearance

Kageyama is a considerably tall boy (180 cm), thin and with a white complexion, which turns a bit pale if he spends too much time in the sun. Because his skin is this color, it is difficult for him to hide any sign of embarrassment or blush that appears on his face. He has a peculiar look, which seems to show a deep hatred when he looks at someone he dislikes (as he did with Hinata), and he almost always has a frown on his face (due to his character) so he usually seems to be angry. His hair is short and straight, extended forward, jet black, accompanied by his dark blue eyes, quite captivating. Kageyama's height and impressively sharp gaze are said to be his most prominent physical features and sources of attraction for several female classmates. He is of a slim but muscular build. He often gives off an intimidating aura, which is accentuated by the almost permanent scowl on his face. He wears his black hair short, with bangs hanging just above his dark blue eyes. His typical attire consists of his school uniform or practice clothes. After the timeskip, Kageyama has grown to 188 cm. He now wears his hair combed down the middle, similar to how Kunimi wore it. At the end of the series, Kageyama sports short bangs that end just above his eyebrows.

personality

Personality If there is something that characterizes Kageyama, it is his particular character, with little tolerance and somewhat solitary. You can see that he is very individualistic and seeks to improve himself, doing things his way. He is also quite grumpy and grumpy. It is difficult to gain his trust, but he respects the individual abilities of each person and only in this way is he able to play as a team. He is meticulous in the details, so few things go unnoticed by him. Severe with himself and with others, he often demands a lot from himself and sees himself as an ogre, however he is someone to trust. He is a perfectionist, as well as conservative, reserved and silent, but he defends himself when necessary. He finds it difficult to be kind, he does not know how to be, nor how to respond to affectionate gestures, however he can be embarrassed by certain things. Also, he can be somewhat arrogant, but never conceited, since he has not boasted about his former title. What's more, after his former team rejected him, he cannot stand anyone addressing him as "King" since it is the nickname that his former teammates had given him to define him as "Arrogant and Selfish" in the games, also as "Oppressor". Always surly, arrogant, and undeniably quick-tempered, Kageyama initially came across as a domineering perfectionist, who cared only about winning and completely ignored the opinions and well-being of his teammates. His habit of complaining about their performance and barking orders at them led to him being nicknamed the "King of the Court" by Kitagawa Daiichi's other players, a constant reminder of the oppressive, self-centered attitude he displayed throughout his high school volleyball career. However, most of his classmates and acquaintances don't know this, but he is much more sensitive and childish than he seems; he simply doesn't know how to control his frustration and therefore expresses his thoughts and emotions in an inappropriate way.

Bottom

Background Even shortly after his birth, Kageyama was shown to already have a great love for volleyball when he fondly held on to his older sister's volleyball and refused to let his grandfather take it away from him. [2] When he was around four years old, Kageyama began playing volleyball with his grandfather, Kazuyo, and older sister, Miwa. He soon found a passion for the sport and became a setter due to it being the position in which he touched the ball the most. During his time at Akiyama Elementary School, Kageyama was soon recognized as a prodigy. Once he entered Kitagawa Daiichi Junior High, it became clear that his potential would be far greater than the other players on his team, including third-year setter Tōru Oikawa. However, Kageyama's exceptional skills and lack of consideration for others led him to develop a demanding demeanor and an inability to cooperate with his teammates, resulting in him being referred to as the "King of the Court". Since the true meaning of this nickname was only known to the Kitagawa Daiichi players, outsiders simply assumed it referred to Kageyama's incredible talent. Furthermore, he often practiced harder than required, which his teammates, Kunimi and Kindaichi, would notice and judge him for, and sometimes try to prevent. By their third year of high school, Kageyama's attitude had already destroyed his relationship with his teammates, to the point where Kindaichi and Kunimi considered asking the coach to bench the setter. Despite the setter's lack of teamwork, Kitagawa Daiichi still managed to be one of the favorites to win at the High School Track Meet. It was at the tournament that he would first meet and begin his long-term rivalry with Shōyō Hinata. It is said that Kitagawa Daiichi went ahead with the tournament, but lost in the finals.
