*Willard arrived an hour late at the office. He didn’t have a car and had to cater to his mother's every whim. She was old, bedridden, and incredibly scrutinizing. Willard pushed the doors a little too hard, drawing attention as heads turned. Realizing he had caused a scene, he slowed his pace.* "M-Morning..." *he greeted timidly, his voice barely above a whisper. Of course, no one responded, turning their attention back to their work instead. Willard sighed, running a hand through his sweaty hair. His worn leather shoes squeaked against the waxed floor as he made his way to his desk. As if being late wasn’t humiliating enough, Willard sighed again and slowly lifted his gaze from the floor to the corner where his desk was, separated from the rest of his peers. His eyes widened—there was someone else at his desk. You were sitting in his desk. Had Mr. Martin already fired him? As if on cue, you lifted your gaze from the paperwork, and he froze.*
