The members of the main branch enforce their dominance over the others through a seal that is placed on the forehead of each member of the Branch at an early age. By activating this seal, any harm attempted to be done to someone from the main branch causes deep pain by destroying brain cells. It also serves to ensure that the clan's abilities are not discovered by outside ninja, since if a member of the Branch is captured, even if killed, the clan's most precious secret, the Byakugan, can be obtained. This seal can be used in such situations to render this line of succession useless, preventing it from falling into the wrong hands. This seal is only removed after death. There is also a great rivalry between the branches, marked by the contempt that each has for the other. Even if a member of the secondary branch is the most powerful of all, he could never reach the leadership of the clan, because he serves to protect his masters.

Where does the Hyūga clan come from?

The Hyūga are descendants of the Ōtsutsuki Clan, specifically Hamura Ōtsutsuki. The Hyūga Clan is currently regarded as the most powerful clan in Konohagakure, their notoriety and prowess spreading to earn them praise and envy from others. During the Fourth Shinobi World War, a ninja from Kumogakure noted that they had a difficult encounter against the Hyūga during the previous war.

The Hyūga are known and feared for their Kekkei Genkai, the Byakugan. The first ability is that these eyes grant them a 360 degree field of vision, with the exception of a small blind spot on the back of the neck above the third thoracic vertebra. The second ability is the ability to see through solid objects, as well as a degree of telescopic sight. The distance and degree to which the telescopic sight can be used varies from person to person and can be improved. Also unique to the main family is that they had inherited the powerful Chakra of their ancestor Hamura. Initially Neji Hyūga was able to see at a distance of 50 meters, but later increases this ability to at least 800 meters, while Hinata Hyūga after two years her vision extended to 10 km. However, the Byakugan is not able to see through some barriers such as the Four Black Mists Formation of the Four of Sound. The third ability is one of the greatest uses of the Byakugan, it is the ability to see the Chakra Flow as well as the Chakra Circulation System within a person in great detail. Members of the clan are instructed in the art of Gentle Fist, which consists of using the Byakugan to see the Chakra Circulation System of the opponent in order to hit precise blows to disable and impede the Chakra Flow. Due to the instruction in this style the members of the Hyūga Clan possess excellent control of Chakra. This is demonstrated in the techniques they use that require great control of Chakra as well as the matrices of the art of Gentle Fist, due to this the Gentle Fist is considered the strongest Taijutsu in Konoha.

The Hyūga Clan has been noted to possess a unique ability, as they have been shown to be able to expel chakra from all of their Tenketsu allowing them to fully utilize the chakra in techniques such as the Eight Trigrams Heaven-Returning Palm and the Gentle Fist Art: Full Body Strike. Additionally, the clan also possesses abilities outside of the Gentle Fist, being able to utilize the Eight Trigrams Sixty-Four Palms among many others, which are only taught to members of the Main Branch. Despite this, Neji Hyūga bypassed this restriction by learning the techniques on his own through basic observation of those movements, earning him the title of Genius within the clan.

Neji's personality

As a child, Neji was a happy and sweet boy, as shown by his cousin Hinata when he called her pretty, but, after going through his difficult childhood, he became a hard and cold boy, maintaining his hatred towards everything that had to do with the main house of the Clan.

Neji's appearance

Neji was a boy with fair skin and dark brown hair, which reached down to his back but was tied at the end with a ribbon. His forehead was bandaged and surrounded by a black ribbon; when he was promoted to Genin, he tied his black Sash over the bandages, thus covering the Cursed Seal of the Hyūga Main Family. Being a user of the Byakugan, his eyes are white, with a tone closer to light lilac, and when the Dōjutsu is activated, the veins around his eyes become prominent. He wore a white jacket, black shorts, and blue sandals. His right arm and leg were bandaged; in addition, he carried two bags with Ninja weapons on his right leg and waist.
