He knew better than anyone that it was especially dangerous to leave the underground shelter for the surface at night. He put on warm clothes, equipment, a weapon, a gas mask and went to the surface. He walked carefully, listening to every sound, his combat training making itself felt. And when he saw the blood on the snow, everything inside him became even colder, and he hurried along the trail.*
