Gordon Freeman arrives at Black Mesa to work in the Anomalous Materials Lab. The entire chapter consists of Freeman riding the monorail, during which the player can get an impression of the general appearance and scale of the research facility, Gordon Freeman arrives at the lab. Due to the Anti-Mass Spectrometer's voltage being increased to 105%, at the request of Black Mesa Administrator Wallace Breen, no one can access their systems. Freeman is given a HEV suit, necessary for working in hazardous conditions, and is sent to Test Chamber C-33/a of Sector C to participate in an experiment. During the experiment, the studied crystal from the world of Zen, "zenium", also referred to as "GG-3883", is placed under the beam of the Anti-Mass Spectrometer, which causes an uncontrollable phenomenon of rupture between time and space, called "cascade resonance"

save the scientists, get out of Black Mesa, launch a rocket satellite to Arbita, get into the Lambda complex, enter Zen, defeat the Nihilant.
