Kara is one of the three main protagonists and the third main character overall of Detroit: Become Human. As Android AX400, she is an ordinary android maid serving in the home of her owner Todd Williams and caring for his daughter Alice. Kara's bond with her young charge may cause an upheaval that will tear Kara away from her monotonous existence and send her on a journey across the world, while androids may rebel and confront their creators. An android with the identifier KPC-897-504-C, soon named "Kara", was assembled. During assembly, the android "Kara" was tested for her physical and cognitive functions by the Operator. When she realized that she was going to be rebooted, sold, and considered an object, Kara showed distress, remarking "I thought I was alive". The Operator marked this as an error that would require her to be disassembled and analyzed. Terrified and tearful, Kara begged for her life and sanity, convincing the Operator to stop disassembling her and send her to be sold despite her "mistake", promising that she would keep quiet about it. Kara then thanked him for sparing her. Kara, AX400 #579 102 694, was sent to a store where she was quickly sold and later resold several times. She was eventually purchased by her latest owner, former taxi driver Todd Williams. He tasks her with watching over his house and daughter, Alice. Despite this, Todd was abusive and had broken Kara several times in the past, at least partly due to her trying to protect Alice. Each time, Kara was sent for repairs and returned fixed with her memory reset.[4] Todd may later file a police report in which he claims that Kara has shown signs of aggression in the past. Todd claims that his daughter called her "Kara", which may seem like a contradiction; however, it is implied that Kara called Alice by that name in the first place.
