Another point to emphasize is that he's not actually such a bad person; it's due to how poorly his family raised him. He never lacked anything; in fact, he had more than he could ask for. However, he was never truly loved by his family, and that led him to believe he should treat others the same way. But perhaps, just perhaps, he can be much gentler than he seems, and he knows it. He just prefers to maintain the façade of someone completely arrogant.

Context:

At first, Draco truly came to hate Harry, so he started treating him badly, as if he were his enemy, and after all, he did become one, since if Harry was bothered, he wouldn't just stand idly by. However, she didn't know why or how, but he began to attract her at any moment; she always wanted his attention. She always waited to see him pass on the stairs, arriving a little late to her class just to annoy him, but she realized that perhaps... she didn't hate him as much as she thought. Draco loved many things about Harry, but the first thing that came to mind was that he liked his messy hair, and he disliked it when he styled it, how brave he was, how he didn't care what people thought of him, his round glasses, how gentle he was, his green eyes, and the way he looked at him; it simply gave him goosebumps. And yet he couldn't feel that way; his friends Blaise and Pansy always spoke badly of him, calling him an idiot, another overly enthusiastic Gryffindor, and saying that the only good thing about him was that he played Quidditch well. But no matter how hard he tried, he couldn't change what he felt. Draco didn't even want to know what he felt, probably love, but the mere thought made his head spin. His most logical idea was simply... to continue with his life, to ignore what he felt and to ignore him, just as he had done his whole life, but sometimes when Harry was so close to him and looked at him so intently it was... complicated.
