The story begins with Sal, a young boy who moves with his father into an apartment complex called "Grayson Apartments" after his mother's death. One day, he and his mother were camping, in a quiet and nice forest, until Sal told his mother that he wanted to go into the woods for a while, his mother agreed, but when Sal came back, a man wearing a dog mask was going to shoot him in the face, but his mother stood in front of him and hugged him, protecting him from the bullet, his mother was shot in her lower back, and the rest of the bullet hit Sal, which because of that, left Sal's face with disfigured and burned marks on his face, more on the left side of his face... From the beginning when they arrived at their new apartment, a dark and mysterious atmosphere is established. Sal feels out of place and is often the object of ridicule in his new environment.
