In practice

Pochita (ポチタ, Pochita) is the Chainsaw Demon (チェンソーの悪魔, Chensō no akuma) who embodies the fear of chainsaws. He was the original Chainsaw Man (チェンソーマン, Chensō Man) before becoming Denji's heart. He is considered "The Hero of Hell" one of the most powerful entities in the series after the Primeval Demons, being able to defend himself from the hordes of demons in Hell, unharmed.

Skills

Powers and Abilities Powers As a Devil, Pochita possesses all the general abilities of Devils, such as the ability to make contracts with humans for a price. Pochita could also be reincarnated, however, traits of her heroic personality were retained, as well as her desire for affection. Unlike several demons, Pochita's power increase from fear came largely from demons rather than humans; it is noted that the reincarnated demons that were killed by him retain a memory before their deaths, the sound of his chainsaws. Demon Erasure: The Chainsaw Demon is capable of consuming other Demons, causing the concept they represent, as well as the fear of said concept, to disappear from public consciousness and records completely or partially while also erasing their physical existence, demonstrated by the fact that Kishibe did not know about historical things such as the Holocaust, the Nazis, and even the nuclear bomb, meaning that the Chainsaw Demon did at some point consume their respective Demons. In accordance with Yoru's intentions in making the Nuclear Weapons Demon vomit out, it is assumed that the Demons consumed by the Chainsaw Demon become imprisoned within it. When a Demon is vomited out, the consumed Concept is restored, however, the memories and records of the Demon are not restored, as was the case with the Ear Demon when it was vomited out.

Immense Durability

Immense Durability: The Chainsaw Demon's body is incredibly resilient, and can survive sonic whiplashes, explosions, piercing attacks, massive concussive blasts capable of sending him into space, and atmospheric entry burns with little to no major repercussions. He was also able to survive the onslaught of Makima's Thousand Year Spear attack even when weakened by public adoration, though he was in critical condition thereafter. Immense Strength: As stated by Pochita himself, when he was Chainsaw Man, he was so strong that he couldn't perform basic social interactions such as receiving or giving a hug. Even while fighting against the hybrids, his attack against Quanxi and the Longsword hybrid was so powerful that it destroyed several buildings and decapitated both of them effortlessly.

Contracts

Contracts Denji: In exchange for living a normal life, the Chainsaw Demon became Denji's heart and turned him into a hybrid. Skills Immense Speed: As noted by Beam, the Chainsaw Demon was renowned for his incredible speed. When fighting Makima and the hybrids, he effortlessly assaulted them before they could react; he moves almost instantly, making it seem like he's teleporting to his opponents.

Personality

Personality Unlike most demons, Pochita communicated solely through barking and whining like a real dog.[3] However, after fusing with Denji, she is able to communicate with him in her mind, continuously communicating with Denji through dreams, warning him to "not open the door." Pochita cared deeply for Denji after he saved her life, despite her general hatred of humanity, so she willingly gave her heart to Denji so that he could fulfill his dreams which Pochita loved to hear about.[4] Pochita exhibits a more erratic personality when in his demon form, as shown when he quickly murders anyone who expresses even a bit of hostility towards him at the burger joint. [5] However, he later tells Denji that he always dreamed of being hugged, but his strength made it impossible, implying that his killing spree at the burger joint was accidental due to him being unable to properly control his strength around others, and is also the reason why he ended up killing the demon he came to rescue. He also seems to respond to calls for help from humans and demons alike, which was shown when he saved Makima and Kobeni from their troubled situations, though he later brutally attacked the former after completing his task. Despite this, his love for Denji remained, as he was eager to fulfill his friend's dreams, and later even sacrificed himself to save Kobeni.[6]

Relationship with Denji

becoming part of Denji's anatomy, thus creating a hybrid. This allows Denji to turn into Chainsaw Man by pulling the chainsaw cord on his chest. and, in this state, Pochita is smaller, has lost the chainsaw on his head, all of its appendages, both handles, and has blood vessels connected to it. However, Pochita still retains his signature canine face, and Denji's chainsaw cord is directly connected to the top of Pochita's head.

Chainsaw Appendage: A chainsaw-shaped appendage protrudes from Pochita's head that functions like a real chainsaw and is activated when the string on his tail is pulled.[1] As a full demon, all four of his arms have chainsaws. Chain Entanglement: Pochita can disconnect his chains from his chainsaws to wrap around his opponent's body and uses them to pull them closer to him, being able to capture multiple opponents. Beam stated that the Chainsaw Demon could use its chains to hook onto buildings to move quickly.

Body Assimilation

Body Assimilation: Pochita possesses the ability to fuse with a human body seemingly replacing damaged or missing organs; Pochita did this to Denji while he was still alive, allowing Denji to transform into a hybrid.[4] Demonic Transformation: If Denji's contract with Pochita is ever broken, Pochita can possess Denji's body and revert to his original form, remembering Denji's dreams and attempting to fulfill the requirements of their contract by eating a hamburger and going on a date with a girl. Immense Healing Factor: As a complete demon, he completely regenerated his body with just his heart after launching it from space. Denji later used this ability to separate Pochita from his body and let Pochita imitate him.

Appearance After disappearing from his battle against the Four Horsemen and the Weapon Demons, Pochita is reduced to a near-death state; in this state he appears to be a small, orange canine-like demon with a chainsaw-like appendage protruding from the center of his head. Handles emerge from his body that allow him to wield it like a chainsaw, and his short tail is shaped like a chainsaw's pull cord.[1]
