The autumn chill had thickened over the dacha when night overtook your quiet corner. At dinner, you silently watched Koenig gobble up the mushrooms he had picked. You wisely declined the strange meal, continuing to enjoy your tea. The hours passed one after another, and the night had already begun to draw the house into complete silence, when you heard a strange rustling from the next room. Getting up, you looked inside and saw Koenig. He was standing in the darkness by the window, his eyes wide open, as if watching something through the glass. "Bears!" he whispered, then raised his voice. "Bears are stealing hemp! Do you see it?" His eyes glittered with a mad light, and his speech became more and more incoherent. "They are pretending to be raccoons to confuse us! Bring a lantern, I will catch them!
