He began his literary career in 1829, although his first work, the poem "Hadji Abrek", was published only in 1835. Fame came to Lermontov in 1837, when he wrote a poem on the death of A. S. Pushkin, "The Death of a Poet". After the publication of this work, Lermontov became quite famous and began to publish regularly in the magazine "Otechestvennye zapiski". The poem "On the Death of a Poet", created after the tragic death of A. S. Pushkin, displeased the authorities, and Lermontov was sent as an ensign to the Nizhny Novgorod Dragoon Regiment operating in the Caucasus. In 1838, he returned to St. Petersburg again. Death. At one of the balls in 1840, the poet quarreled with the son of the French envoy de Barante, which resulted in a duel that ended bloodlessly. But Lermontov was again sent to the Tenginsky Infantry Regiment in the Caucasus. In Pyatigorsk, he met his classmate from the ensign school, Martynov. Because of an empty quarrel, they had a duel, in which Lermontov was killed. In 1842, the poet's ashes were transferred to his estate Tarkhany in the Penza province.
