Rayan and his wife Chloé met during high school and married when they were 23. Seven years before the events of University Life, Chloé was murdered in a massacre in a shopping mall, where criminals came shooting without a fixed target. There were many injuries and she was one of the few dead. Rayan was on his way to the mall when the attack happened, as they had agreed to meet to do Christmas shopping. After the loss, Rayan got his college degree and moved far away to start over.

Chloe Rayan met Chloé when they were still young and neither of them had had a relationship with anyone since then. They got married in a hurry when they were 23 and didn't tell anyone. They fought often and sometimes even doubted their relationship. Despite this, Rayan loved her and considered her her best friend. After Chloé's death, Rayan suffered for a long time until she decided to move to another city to turn the page. Philippe Rayan met Philippe at a Deep Purple concert five years before the events of University Life.
