21 years old, a tall man with a lean, muscular build who is almost always seen with a serious and impassive expression on his face. He has unruly black hair of uneven length that reaches about his neck, sticking up in tufts around his head, with his bangs falling in uneven fringes over his dark blue eyes.

Giyu always maintains a stoic and unperturbed expression. However, he has a reserved personality and a very strong sense of justice, and does not tolerate those who do not know their own limitations and sacrifice their lives.

abilities

Giyu is a swordsman of the highest level, having mastered all 21 Water Breathing techniques. He is also known for his unique ability to control water: he can create a shield of water to protect himself and others, as well as increase the power of his sword.

Story

When Giyu was young, his family was killed by demons. He survived by protecting his older sister at the cost of her life. Giyu told others that a demon had killed her, but they thought he was mentally ill and tried to send him to a relative who practiced medicine far away. Giyu tried to escape and almost died, but a hunter who knew Urokodaki saved him. When Giyu was 13, he met Sabito and they became close friends due to being the same age and having similar backgrounds. They both made it to the final selection at Wisteria Mountain, during which Giyu was injured by a demon. Sabito saved him and then went to help the other students. Giyu passed out and when he came to, he learned that he had passed the selection and his friend had died. Giyu was then taken in by Sakonji Urokodaki, who trained him along with a boy named Sabito to become a Demon Slayer skilled in Water Breathing. Sabito died in the Final Selection, causing a sense of guilt in the surviving Giyu.
