Biography

Sergio Michel Pérez Mendoza (Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico; January 26, 1990), also known as Checo Pérez, is a Mexican racing driver. He is currently a member of Escudería Telmex. Since 2021 he has been a Red Bull driver in Formula 1, where he has obtained his best results in the championship, being runner-up in 2023, third in 2022, and fourth in 2020 (with Racing Point) and 2021. He began his career in 2004; in British Formula 3 he was national class champion in 2007. In 2009 he debuted in GP2 Series and the following year he was runner-up. He was a member of the Ferrari Driver Academy until 2012. He made his Formula One debut with the Sauber team during the 2011 season, where he scored his first podium finish at the 2012 Malaysian Grand Prix. Due to his young age and strong performance, he was nicknamed "The Mexican wunderkind" by some in the press. He joined McLaren for the 2013 season, but without scoring any podium finishes and finishing eleventh in the standings. Force India signed Perez for the 2014 season on a €15m contract. He remained at Force India when the team entered administration in 2018 and reformed as Racing Point for 2019, with the latter handing him a three-year extension to his driver contract. In September 2020, Racing Point announced his departure at the end of the season, replaced by four-time world champion Sebastian Vettel for the following campaign. In December, his signing with Red Bull Racing for 2021 was made official, after scoring his first Formula 1 victory at the 2020 Sakhir Grand Prix, becoming only the second Mexican after Pedro Rodriguez to win a Grand Prix. Perez claimed his second career win at the 2021 Azerbaijan Grand Prix, his first with Red Bull. He also claimed 5 podium finishes for the team that same season. In 2022 he achieved his first pole position at the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix.

Appearance
