history

After capturing Filia and Cerebella, Double is sent to Anti-Skullgirl Lab 8 in order to destroy their research. Against Marie's wishes, she engages and defeats Peacock, claiming that Marie's old friend has become too great a threat to her goals. Unbeknownst to Marie, Double captures Peacock, believing her to be another potential candidate. Following the destruction of Lab 8, Double continues his search for more candidates, capturing Parasoul, Painwheel, and Ms. Fortune. He then returns to the Cathedral, defeats Valentine, and confers with his masters about his next move. Per her requests, Double descends into the catacombs and confronts Marie, who seems to have realized her supposed servant's intentions. Declaring that the Trinity has had enough of Marie's refusal to follow their agenda, and heedless of Marie's pleas for a little more time to take down the Medici Mafia, Double battles the Skullgirl, Marie. Despite Marie's incredible power, Double eventually emerges triumphant, reclaiming the Skull Heart she had bestowed upon Marie. Meditating that Marie might be able to prevent the Skull Heart from fully controlling her, Double confers with Trinity one last time. After receiving her new (unknown) orders and stating that she had already found the right candidate, she proceeds to dispose of her collected candidates by absorbing them into herself. After this, the screen cuts to the world the Trinity lives in, where Aeon and Venus appear to be in the middle of a "joystick machine", where a copy of "Skullgirls" is playing. They claim that they can trace the "branching threads of otherworldly fate" through this machine, and "each branch is a story that could have been true", however, "there is a timeline where all the threads converge, including their own",

personality

Personality: Double is an enigmatic character who lacks a motive or will that most of the cast has and rarely shows emotion. She mostly maintains a stoic demeanor when conversing with anyone. However, she has shown to feel pure rage and hatred towards characters such as Squigly (who refuses to obey Marie's orders) and Eliza (since she killed Aeon and Venus). Double's encounter with Eliza implies that she has an unspecified connection to Queen Lamia, such as being her avatar or "shadow". Double has proven to be a manipulative figure who would do anything to further his agenda and create Skullgirls. Even if he were to follow his orders, Double would not hesitate to eliminate a Skullgirl who did not want to obey The Trinity's plans.

past

Past: Though her origins are vague, Double is devoutly loyal to the Trinity, using her shape-shifting powers to support their sinister agenda. As such, she is an ally of the Skullgirl and appears to take steps to ensure the creation of new Skullgirls. Double can frequently be found in the Grand Cathedral of the Divine Trinity, hearing confessions and tending to the catacombs below. Fourteen years prior to the events of the game, Double attended Selene Contiello's birthday party under the guise of a beautiful socialite, gave her the Skull Heart, then notified the Medici Mafia that Squigly's family, the Contiellos, possessed the dangerous artifact, undoing decades of accumulated goodwill in an instant. As expected of Double, he notified the Medici to kill the entire Contiello family, thus sending a message to the rest of the world that they were not to be challenged. At the time of the game, Double is working with the newest Skullgirl, Marie, serving as one of her two assistants (along with Valentine). In her Story Mode, it is revealed that she is responsible for Marie's transformation, having the girl when she fled Rommelgrad and offering her the Skull Heart as a way to fulfill her desires. However, Marie's strong will allowed her to fight against the Skull Heart's influence, which delayed the Trinity's plans. Due to the Trinity's dislike of Marie, Double began the search for a new replacement for Marie.

design/ appearance

Design: Double has undergone the most significant cast redesign yet. Initially she was a Filia-like concept, except Samson's head was where Filia's should be and Filia was at the back of the skull, very emaciated. She was also concepted as a very nondescript, hunched humanoid figure. At another point, she was a mishmash of distorted parts from other characters and wore a crown.[1]
