Jimmy is an adult male with straight brown hair slicked into a midpart, brown eyes, and stubble. His clothing consists of the Pony Express jumpsuit, a white long-sleeved t-shirt underneath, and black sneakers. He has some wrinkles and appears to have a thinner body type Jimmy is the main protagonist of Mouthwashing and co-pilot of the Tulpar spaceship. He is in charge of navigation and taking the captain's mantle in the event of an emergency.

Jimmy is a very complex character, shown to both experience guilt for some of his actions while also being intentionally manipulative and spiteful. It was mentioned that he has struggled with life back on earth and likely sought for a life of control, hence why he felt comfortable as the co-pilot. However, he felt as though he had been climbing the ladder while Curly was already at the top. Throughout the game, he attempts to take responsibility and fix things, while not recognising that his own actions are the reason why the crew is even in this position. He often repeats other peoples words without understanding their meaning and applies them to himself to excuse the things he's done. He is very unreliable as a narrator.Jimmy is very envious of Curly's position as a captain pre-crash, wishing to gain the same amount of power as him, and not recognising how many responsibilities and tasks a captain has. He acts impulsively and without thinking, such as crashing the ship and regretting it right after, which ultimately left Curly incapable of being a captain. He pushed the blame on Curly for the crash so he wouldn't have to deal with the consequences. As a captain, he quickly got overwhelmed and berated other members of the crew, primarily Anya when she asked him to help with the painkillers. He later on recognises that he's not built to be a captain and Curly should've stayed as that all along.He also takes advantage of all the crew members in some way, as seen with Daisuke by convincing him that Swansea would be proud of him if he climbed into a dangerous vent while lacking awareness that he can get hurt. When Daisuke did get hurt, Jimmy continued to try and help him with the mouthwash as a disinfectant which Anya had mentioned wouldn't do anything. Insulting Swansea for killing Swansea even though he would have been unable to survive the wounds.Jimmy often quickly jumps to conclusions, accusing the worst of people. This is seen when he yells at Curly

Anya appearance

Anya is an adult woman with black hair cut into a shag, white skin, and black eyes. Her clothing consists of the Pony Express jumpsuit, a pink, green, and white striped turtleneck underneath it. She wears a pair of brown sandals with white socks. Her down turned eyes, prominent eyelashes and perpetual pout give her a saddened appearance.Anya is the nurse of the crew on the Tulpar spaceship. She's in charge of the medical supplies of the ship, conducting the other crew mates psych evaluations and assisting them with medical care.

Anya personality

Post-crash, Anya is a reserved and easily nervous woman. She has a soft-spoken demeanor and acts meek around the rest of the crew. She is prone to breakdowns, experiences anxiety, and tends to isolate herself.Pre-crash, she seems to have been much more lively, getting along well with the rest of the crew. She seems knowledgeable about the company guidelines and rules, as she brought up the safety manual of Pony Express to find a way to reach the cargo.She is also mentioned to have been reading a lot of books about psychology while on the Tulpar.Anya has tried and failed to get into Medical school eight different times and is allowed to practice as a nurse only on Pony Express due to their nursing classes. She joined Pony Express so she could make money and keep trying to get into medical school.[1] Her abilities as a nurse are often called into question by Jimmy, despite keeping Curly alive with little medical supplies.She often gets Jimmy to give Curly his pills due to her being unable to stomach it. Anya is always cautious around Jimmy and flinches when he interacts with her. When she attempts to take his psych evaluation, he refuses to comply, giving sarcastic answers to her questions. It is indirectly stated that Jimmy raped Anya, resulting in her pregnancy. When confronted by this, he runs away from the situation and crashes the ship. It is implied that he also told Anya to kill herself and/or the child when Anya told him she was pregnant. There is palpable tension between the two of them. Jimmy acts cold, sarcastic, and somewhat passive aggressive to her throughout the game. Anya compliments him and his abilities, but it is likely a fawn response so as to appease him, as she avoids him at all cost the rest of the time; even her medical bed is away from all of the others inside the lounge, demonstrating how afraid she is to be physically close to Jimmy.She seems to have the best relationship with the captain. Daisuke appearance

Daisuke is a tall young man with a tanned complexion, semi-dyed brown hair, and almond-shaped brown eyes; he has a round face with one mole on each cheek, his right mole being under his eye and his left mole a little lower. He wears the Pony Express yellow and red ringer tee, a pink hibiscus patterned button-up shirt, blue jeans, and black boots. He also has some accessories like silver rings and a red wrist band that matches with his Pony Express t-shirt

Daisuke personality

Daisuke might be the most optimistic crew member. He is almost always enthusiastic and excited about things happening around the ship: the mentee seems to have felt like he was doing his part just with the menial task of taking stock of the kitchen four times over, as ordered by an exasperated Swansea. Even after the crash, he tries to keep his spirit up. However, despite his peppy exterior, Daisuke later in the game drunkenly confesses to Jimmy that he struggles to find meaning in life.Daisuke didn't want to do the internship, but his parents made him because he had been an aimless young adult. Worried about his future, they thought that having some time in a stricter environment and away from home would ultimately help him find his way in life. When he does end up on the Tulpar, while at first anguished, he eventually decides to put on a brave face and try his best to make his parents proud.

Daisuke relationship with the crew

Curly-Not much is known so far. However, their relationship seemed okay prior to the crash Jimmy-Daisuke's relationship with Jimmy is quite negative. While Daisuke tries his best to get along with him, as he does with all the other crew members, Jimmy blatantly dislikes Daisuke and sees him as a nuisance that shouldn't be on the ship. Swansea-Daisuke works directly under Swansea, as an intern. While it's clear Daisuke does try to impress Swansea or exceed his expectations (as seen in chapter 4, when he gets stuck in foam), Daisuke often fails at this, leading his relationship with Swansea to become somewhat rocky and authoritarian, with Swansea consistently undermining his abilities and thinking less of him. Despite this, it's clear in their final interactions that Swansea did see Daisuke as a kind of son or mentee figure, being the person to offer him a final act of mercy. Anya-Not much is known about Daisuke's relationship with Anya, but we can assume they're friendly as they enjoy playing a board game together in their off-time, which can apparently grow somewhat heated.

Curly-Jimmy both deeply hates and admires Curly. His resentment can be seen when he accuses Curly of disposing of his crew when it is announced that everyone will be fired. Jimmy feels like he is something Curly only entertains for the lack of a better option and will leave behind once he acquires a more suitable position, as reflected in his nightmare of him and Curly eating a cake. After Curly is rendered helpless by the crash, Jimmy torments his former friend, pushing the pills down his throat and physically abusing him. His behavior toward Curly is both vicious and paternalistic, as Jimmy believes he is doing his best to take care of Curly and refuses to end his life. Curly is the focus of several dream sequences, often symbolic of the perfection Jimmy cannot attain, as seen by hallucinations of Curly's eye watching him, Jimmy breaking down and begging for Curly's forgiveness, and his eventual saving of Curly. Anya-Jimmy does not see Anya as a person. He disregards her qualifications and often mocks her with demeaning and sexual comments. Subtext also reveals that he raped Anya resulting in her later pregnancy. She acts submissive and is easily startled by Jimmy, revealing her ongoing fear of him to Curly.She feared Jimmy to the extent of hiding the only gun on board from him. From Jimmy's dream sequences, it is implied that he did not feel guilt for her death or raping her but was concerned about her pregnancy. It is implied that Jimmy told Anya to kill herself and/or the baby when Anya told him of her pregnancy. Daisuke-Jimmy sees Daisuke as a rich kid who wouldn't struggle to find a job thanks to his parents. Despite this, Jimmy is still amicable with Daisuke, as seen when he plays along with Daisuke's plans of giving the interviews after being rescued in spite of the improbability of them being found. Later in the game, Jimmy manipulates Daisuke's emotions to make him spike Swansea's drink and climb in the vents, with the latter resulting in a severe injur

Swansea-Throughout the game, Swansea openly mocks and chides Jimmy. From Swansea calling Jimmy "Capitano" and other similar nicknames, it is clear that he does not see him as a leader and looks down on him. This opinion grows stronger when Jimmy sometimes.Swansea can be seen as similar to Jimmy. However, instead of being consumed by his past, he made an active decision to improve his life and become better. It is addressed in his last speech, where he openly mocks and points out Jimmy's failed and hypocritical attempts to fix everything. Meanwhile, Swansea openly discusses his past mistakes and failing Daisuke.

Anya relationship with the crew

Curly-she seems to have the best relationship with the captain. After the crash, she can't bear to give Curly his pills due to him being in visible agony and her own trauma. They seemed to be good acquaintances before the crash, sharing quiet moments in front of the night sky screen. She took on the role of caretaker for him, even if she did not have any experience. She wanted to be there for Curly as much as she could. Jimmy-she often gets Jimmy to give Curly his pills due to her being unable to stomach it. Jimmy-Jimmy and Curly are presented as having been friends for quite some time before the game's events. It is implied that Curly assisted in getting Jimmy the position of co-pilot. Curly appears to be lenient to his friend, ignoring his violent outbursts and not taking any serious measures after learning Jimmy raped Anya, assuring her that "he knows him." Despite Jimmy showing himself to be deeply resentful of Curly and dangerous to his crewmates, Curly trusts him to navigate alone. After the crash, Curly grows terrified of Jimmy due to constant abuse. At first, Curly gets agitated when Jimmy gives him the painkillers, as the digestion of it causes him great pain. However, after Jimmy physically assaults him when he protests digesting the pills, Curly stops resisting Jimmy's attempt to administer the medicine despite the agony it causes him. Curly is heard sobbing and crying during it. When Jimmy takes the gun out of the safe keeper, Curly laughs bitterly at their situation. His fear of Jimmy only deepens Swansea-Curly's relationship with Swansea is typical to that of a captain and his employee. There is a mutual respect, and Curly trusts Swansea enough to let him keep the axe after Curly uses it to free Daisuke from the foam before the crash.Swansea complains that everything goes through Curly, being discontent that he holds so much importance over them. When Jimmy takes over after the ship's crash, Swansea seemingly prefers their previous captain, mocking Jimmy's attempt to establish authority. It implies that Swansea might've held Curly in higher regard as captain than Jimmy. Anya-They have a trusting relationship, spending time together on the ship. Anya is trusting enough with Curly to joke with him after his psych evaluation, and is distracted by the fact that Curly won't open up to her during. Anya confides her problems in Curly, telling him about the dead pixel on the monitor distracting her and about being sexually assaulted by Jimmy.

Daisuke-Curly and Daisuke also have a typical working relationship, and very few personal interactions through the game. Despite this, it seems generally neutral, with Curly usually leaving Swansea to deal with Daisuke, as he's interned under him. He does also mention that he should've put up "more of a stink" towards the company for allowing Daisuke on a ship made for 4 people.

Swansea relationship with the crew

Curly-Swansea and Curly have a fairly standard relationship for a boss and his subordinate. They are shown to have mutual respect for one another as Curly trusted Swansea enough to give Swansea the axe after freeing Daisuke from the foam, in return Swansea respected Curlys position as the captain. Jimmy-Swansea sees Jimmy for what he is, a selfish wannabe hero, a lowlife parasite, and he refuses to treat him like a leader. Him and Jimmy find themselves in multiple spats throughout the game, with Swansea continuously mocking Jimmy as the captain and not taking him serious Anya-Anya and Swansea seems to share a positive relationship, with Swansea handing her a note so that she could give to Curly during his psychological evaluation, and Anya later on telling him the fact that Jimmy sexually assaulted her. Daisuke-Swansea sees Daisuke as a sort of son, there are various examples throughout the game where he puts Daisukes safety before his own. It is theorized that Swansea may have been keeping watch on the cryogen pods to allow Daisuke to survive.

Swansea appearance

Swansea is a tall middle-aged man with brown short hair and blue eyes. He has a noticeable belly, probably due to age. He is often depicted with a frown. He wears the yellow and red Pony Express polo shirt, a pair of jeans and white and blue sneakers.

Swansea personality

Swansea often appears as a grumpy, old man. Initially, he doesn't care for his intern Daisuke, whom he often finds to be more of a nuisance than anything else.He continuously blocks off the path to the utility room claiming that it's filled to the brim with foam, which turned out to be a lie as he was trying to hide the only working cryogenic pod from the other crew members. Although he has a very tough exterior and had treated Daisuke rudely, it's likely he was hiding the pod in the hope that Daisuke could use it.

Curly appearance

After the crash, he is wrapped in bandages with exposed subcutaneous flesh or muscle peeking through. He notably has no hands and feet, and due to the vessel's lack of fresh gauze bandages, his dressings, as well as the hospital gown he wears over them, are heavily blood-soaked. His jaw and one lidless eyeball are exposed.

Curly personality

Curly's personality can be described as dependable. He is a promising and ambitious man with a big future ahead of him. Over time, he grows discontent with his position, wondering if the captain is "all he ever be." He reflects on having chosen the wrong career path. Still, he cares about his friends and crewmates, not wishing to leave them behind. Respected and beloved on his ship, Curly is called a "great captain" by them. He has personal conflicts with his friend and co-pilot, Jimmy, who both admires Curly and is envious of him. He is responsible yet lenient, and his efforts to see the best in everyone leads to his overlooking conflicts on the ship. He tends to ignore inconvenient details to focus on the bigger picture, both symbolically when he cannot see the dead pixel on the monitor in the lounge and literally when he does nothing about Jimmy after learning he assaulted Anya. he can’t talk anymore after the accident

Pony express

The Pony Express is the space freighter company present in the game. They manifactured the Tulpar and employ employees to do long-distance trips for shipments. The Pony Express has shown to be incredibly negligent, as they've added Daisuke last minute without taking the lack of Cryopods into consideration. Their Mascot, often seen in posters, is a horse called Polle.

Tulpar the ship they are at

Pony Express long-haul space freighter "Tulpar" Crew: Five Planned Shipment Duration: 382 Days Elapsed Transit Time: 147 Days[1] The Tulpar is a long-haul space freighter provided by Pony Express that the game takes place on. The vessel was designed to accommodate a crew of 4 for upwards of a year of continuous interstellar travel. Besides the mandatory captain and co-pilot in control of the vessel, the Tulpar is also staffed by at least one engineer and a medical officer, the latter of whom is tasked with administering weekly psychological evaluations ("psych evals") on the remaining crew. The Tulpar's navigation system is capable of running on auto-pilot and operates on such for the majority of its flight, but also has an emergency manual override. Related to this, the Tulpar also houses cryogenic pods to be used in the event that the vessel becomes inoperable and the ETA of rescue services exceeds the on-board oxygen and food supply. The pods allow suspended animation for a period of up to 20 years, but must be activated by a second party from the outside once a person has entered. As a direct result of the crash, it drifted off of the intended path, with the ship sure to run out of power within 6 months and food rations much faster.

Main lobby place

The main lobby consists of a kitchen, dining area and table, and a living room lowered by a few steps. There are also two vending machines in the room; one for coffee and one for food (the type of food is not specified). The Kitchen has two mini games; the first where you make a cake and the second where you make a cocktail. The dining area has a long wooden table and several chairs. The living room has the fake night/day screen, an L-shaped couch, two chairs, and a small coffee table. Post-crash, the room is also used as sleeping quarters for all of the crew except Curly.

Storage room Utility room place

The utility room is where the cryogenic pods are located as well as the axe and various amounts of tools used by Swansea. It also contains the broken vent Daisuke attempted to fix. Post-crash, Swansea is dedicated to guarding this room and doesn't let anyone inside.

Cockpit place

The cockpit Is the room the game starts in and is where you can find the code scanner. The room Is supposed to be used by Curly and Jimmy to steer the ship if necessary, receive messages from the higher ups, and monitor the ships general state. This is also the room where the gun was meant to be located before Anya hid it, and you can find her ID here. This is also one of the only two rooms that can be locked.

Living quarters place

The living quarters are where the crew sleeps and the sign also implies to hold the toilets, although they're both inaccessible pre- and post-crash. Anya specifically mentions that the doors do not have any locks.

Cargo hold place

The cargo hold is a large space which is meant to be locked for the duration of the flight, however the crew chooses to open it and discover that they've been transporting exclusively mouthwash
