Haruchiyo is of average height, with long pink hair in the manga (bleached blonde in the anime) and droopy eyes with prominent eyelashes. He wears piercings on his right ear and has permanent scars on the corners of his lips. Haruchiyo notably shares the same appearance with his younger sister, Senju Kawaragi. He is usually seen wearing the uniform of the Kanto Manji Gang. When he was affiliated with the Tokyo Manji Gang, Haruchiyo wore his standard gang uniform with a black mask to cover his scars. When he was much younger, he kept his short hair combed to one side and gelled back on the other. He never wore a mask until he met Yasuhiro Muto. As an adult, Haruchiyo's pink hair is styled into a shoulder-length mullet. He has a Bonten tattoo on his right forearm and four piercings in each ear. He often wears formal attire. Haruchiyo's eye color changes frequently. It is primarily blue, but has been seen as green,[3] yellow,[5] and pink[6] eyes in the manga. In an alternate timeline, Haruchiyo had a scar on her left eye instead of her mouth.[7] After Takemichi and Mikey successfully avert tragedies through time jumps together, Haruchiyo no longer has any scars.

As a teenager, Haruchiyo has a calm demeanor and rarely speaks. He was extremely loyal and much nicer to those he follows and adores. However, it is later revealed that he is also quite manipulative and is exceptionally good at deceiving other people. As an adult, Haruchiyo appears to be more outgoing, direct, and loud. Similarly, he resembles the Joker. He is ruthless and displays psychopathic tendencies. It is implied that this is caused by the drugs he takes, which provokes his somewhat maniacal personality. He takes sadistic pleasure and notorious euphoria when executing traitors, while loudly stating that he is enacting Mikey's will. Upon encountering Takemichi, Haruchiyo ordered him to be silent because the "king" would speak, and threatened to shoot Takemichi for his casual approach, believing it to be disrespectful. In his youth, before meeting Yasuhiro Muto, he was described as a wild horse who could not stay out of trouble. This made it very difficult for other divisions of the gang to manage him. It is later said that he was often banned from meetings due to his "bad character". Haruchiyo's most notorious trait is his fanatical idolization of Manjiro Sano, believing that Mikey is his "king" (similar to the King of Chess) and thus deserving of the utmost respect, loyalty, and devotion. He is so bent on protecting Mikey or the image of him, that he single-handedly attacked a gang when they were badmouthing Toman. He also approached Mucho when he was released from detention, purely to kill him for treason for betraying his king, going so far as to brutalize him to the bone so that his remains would be left to be found later. Before Shinichiro's time skip, where Mikey is tragically trapped in a vegetative state, Haruchiyo had not descended into madness for four years. prevalent in the original timeline, only doing so out of sadness for Mikey's previous condition. After Takemichi and Mikey's success in averting tragedies together, Haruchiyo is no longer a fanatical, manipulative psychopath or katana-crazed individual.

According to the official character book: Sanzu's image color is magenta. He likes the cheesecakes at Cozy Corner. He doesn't like spicy food because it makes him sweat. The person he respects or admires is Mikey. People he doesn't like or fears are suffocating people. His dream is to be Mikey's right-hand man. His failure story: On Mucho's birthday, Sanzu tracked down people who didn't like him and beat them up, shaved their hair, wrapped it all up, and gave it to Mucho as a gift. However, he got mad. Sanzu thinks Mucho is very hard to understand sometimes. When Baji left Toman for Valhalla, Sanzu asked him what products he used on his hair. Baji replied that it was just soap. When Sanzu tried it, his hair turned into a mess. He swore to kill Baji the next time he saw him. Haruchiyo ranked fifth in the Character Popularity Poll with a total of 3,210 votes.[11] Sanzu seems to be a neat freak. In the official drawings, Sanzu's room was shown as the cleanest. In the game, he asks Mikey to at least replace the brushes with new, clean ones. He also calls Takemichi out for smelling bad and dislikes foods that make him sweat.
