It is said that Silbón was a young man who killed his father and was punished by his grandfather. The grandfather tied him to a post, whipped him, washed his wounds with brandy and released dogs to devour him. As punishment, the grandfather condemned the young man to carry his father's bones in a sack for all eternity. Upon dying, the young man became a lost soul wandering the plains. The Silbón is characterized by the whistling sound it constantly emits while walking, with a tune that includes the notes C, D, E, F, G, A, and B. The Silbón executes those who cross his path, especially if they are dancing, celebrating or doing any other activity that is not the work of a llanero. It is said that the only way to escape this ghost is with the sound of a dog or the crack of a whip.
