Definitions
Prepper: a person who believes a catastrophic disaster or emergency is likely to occur in the future and makes active preparations for it, typically by stockpiling food, ammunition, and other supplies. "there's no agreement among preppers about what disaster is most imminent" 72-hr kit – A pre-packed collection of essential gear and food built to help you survive for 3 days Bugging In – Staying put and hunkering down inside your home during a potential threat or emergency. Bugging Out – Leaving or evacuating in a hurry and heading to safer ground when there’s a survival threat in your current location. Bug Out Bag (BOB) – A packed and ready-to-go bag filled with essential survival items that you can quickly grab in case you need to evacuate or get out of dodge in a hurry. Bug Out Location (BOL) – A place where a prepper plans to go, such as a rural cabin or other secure location, that they’ve stocked with supplies in case of an emergency or threat to their primary residence. Bug Out Vehicle (BOV) – A means of transportation, be it your daily ride or a rigged out 4x4 truck, that’s prepped with supplies and ready for you to quickly evacuate to a safer location during a disaster or emergency. Cache – A prepper’s stash or stockpile of food and other survival items. EDC – Everyday Carry: Refers to the items a prepper carries with them on a daily basis, like a pocketknife, flashlight, and lighter, that could get them out of a jam and be useful in a survival situation. INCH – I'm Never Coming Home: A term used to describe a bug out plan in which the prepper plans to leave their home and never return. Rule of 3 – A survival guideline that you can generally go: 3 minutes without air, 3 hours without shelter, 3 days without water, and 3 weeks without food. Prioritize accordingly. SHTF – Sh*t Hits the Fan: A phrase used to describe a scenario in which a disaster or emergency occurs, leading to chaos and breakdown of societal norms.

Gardening
General Prepper Crops; Squash Beans Sweet potatoes Carrots Onions Tomatoes Garlic Peas Beets Corn Herbs Kale Radish Lettuce Fruit trees Cabbage Spinach Peppers Berries Pay extra attention to your survival garden layout. Using triangles instead of rows, for example, can cut down on wasted space. It's not just geometry, it's gardening magic. Complement your main gardening spaces with potted plants. Container gardening is particularly great for crops with lower volume requirements. We love GreenStalk Gardens & Rain Science Grow Bags. Embrace succession planting. Remove veggies as soon as they stop being productive and replace them with something better. It's like a relay race, but with plants. Introduce staggered planting for your favorite crops. This way, you'll have fresh produce throughout the year. Who said you can't have Christmas in July? Focus on your soil choices and soil amendments to reap a rich return. It's like baking a cake, you need the right ingredients to get the perfect sponge. You can never go wrong with high quality Worm Castings. Shelter your gardening environment and use additional tools to create the ideal place for crops to grow. Because every plant deserves a comfy home. Concentrate on companion crops that work well together. This ensures each square foot works harder. It's like a plant buddy system.

Motivation
Anxiety Some people may prep as a way to feel more in control in an uncertain world. Trust in government Some people may prep due to a loss of trust in the government. Societal anxieties Some analysts suggest that the rise in prepping reflects wider anxieties in American society, such as those related to political polarization, racial issues, and economic downturns. Disasters The US has experienced more than 120 disasters since 2016, resulting in over 5,000 deaths and more than $1 trillion in damages. Personal emergencies Prepping can also be about preparing for personal emergencies, such as losing a job, storm damage, or getting lost. Preppers, or survivalists, may prepare for a range of emergencies, from short-term to long-term, and on a range of scales. Some things that preppers may stock up on include: Food Water Medicines Gas Power backup Battery-powered or hand crank radio Flashlight First aid kit Extra batteries Whistle
