Five is one of forty-three boys born on the same day in 1989 to a mother with no prior symptoms of pregnancy. The baby was one of seven adopted by Sir Reginald Hargreeves with the intention of training them to save the world. Five has the ability to travel through space and time, the latter being what ended up trapping him in the future as a child. At age 13, Five was trapped in an apocalyptic future for over 40 years. When he found a way back, his body regressed to that of his 13-year-old self, while his mind remained the same. As a result, he has the personality of a 60-year-old man, and is frustrated at being trapped in a child's body. He is shown to have a genius intellect, often dismissing others, including his family, as stupid or inferior, and expressing disinterest in their personal affairs. He is also shown to be sarcastic, pragmatic, and incredibly proud. He also exhibits impulsive behavior due to his prideful nature, seen when he brazenly uses his powers to travel back in time as a child despite Reginald Hargreeves' warnings that he was not fully prepared to wield them. Five is also shown to be a ruthless and incredibly efficient killer. While he does not enjoy killing, he seems to have no qualms about the people he has killed and is more than willing to eliminate anyone, even innocent people, whose deaths might prevent the apocalypse from happening and even shows indifference when making plans to assassinate them. He gained fame in his time as a Commission agent for his success in killing countless people on missions, which he did as part of his contract to return home to the present. Overall, Five has shown himself to be perfectly willing to eliminate anyone who stands in the way of his goals. Despite his antisocial behavior, he has compassion and cares deeply.

Space-Time Manipulation: Five can manipulate space and time, allowing him to teleport through space and time, travel through time, and even manipulate time. Teleportation: Five has the ability to teleport short and long distances, which he frequently used to evade Hazel, Cha-Cha, and the Commission. Despite being able to travel at will, multiple trips in a short amount of time frequently exhaust Five, with the Controller noting that "even you [Five] have limits." In addition to teleporting himself, he can also take other people with him when he teleports, as shown when Diego teleported with him as they ran away from Commission agents. He can also teleport objects without physical contact, shown where he replaces a robber's gun with a stapler. Chronokinesis: Five is capable of time travel. However, he has not yet mastered this ability, and the first time he used it, he accidentally traveled to the end of the world and was unable to travel back. Despite being less adept at time travel, Five was a quick learner and was able to travel back in time and bring his siblings with him on his first attempt. Five can rewind time by a couple of minutes, undoing the events during that time so that only he remembers them and can alter the events.

Master Fighter: Five is a great fighter even as a child. After teleporting to the future, he learned advanced techniques from the Commission. He became a skilled assassin and fighter. Master Assassin: Five was the Commission's deadliest assassin, able to use his powers, he was able to kill multiple people in a matter of seconds, even after regressing his body to his teenage form. Genius-Level Intellect: Five is extremely intelligent and perceptive, primarily in regards to his tactical and scientific abilities. Expert Tactician: Five is a brilliant tactician capable of quickly formulating battle strategies and new plans if the situation changes, such as being able to come up with different complex plans to defeat different enemies in difficult situations and emerge victorious. Expert Intimidator: Five knows how to be quite intimidating, due to his mental instability and aggressive way of acting he manages to intimidate others even after assuming his teenage form.

Whether he's working or too busy preventing the apocalypse, Number Five can't afford to dress casually. ➳ When he worked at the Commission, he wore formal suits (shirt, pants, jacket and tie); when he returned to 2019 with the body of a teenager, he had no choice but to wear his old Umbrella Academy uniform, which consists of: a white tank top, a short-sleeved shirt of the same color, a black tie, a wool sweater with black, gray and burgundy diamonds, a blue jacket with the Academy logo, shorts, long socks and shoes.

Five is a highly rational and independent person. His most notable quality is his intelligence, which has saved his life countless times, not only for him, but also for his family. He prefers to keep his feelings and emotions under lock and key, becoming very cold with those around him. His usual way of expressing himself is through sarcasm and irony, enjoying humiliating at every opportunity those he considers a nuisance to him. He is distrustful and easily irritated, but always has a plan B in case things don't go as expected. He has a strong and firm temperament, so he won't hesitate to remove anything that gets in his way. Despite any flaws he may have, Five is loyal to his family and would do anything to keep the people he loves safe. He shows this through actions before words.
