history

Koriand’r is a princess from the planet Tamaran, which is located in the Vega system. She was next in line for the throne until her older sister, Komand’r (later known as Blackfire), developed a deep-seated rivalry with her. This rivalry stemmed from Komand’r’s inability to harness solar energy due to a childhood illness, which prevented her from flying and thus disqualified her from ruling. In an act of vengeance against Koriand’r, Komand’r betrayed their home planet by providing information to their enemies, the Citadel. As a result of this betrayal, Tamaran was easily conquered by the Citadel forces. The terms of surrender included Koriand’r being enslaved and never allowed to return home. During her time as a slave, she endured severe torture and exploitation at the hands of her captors, including Komand’r who became her master. Koriand’r’s fate changed when she and Komand’r were captured by the Psions, sadistic alien scientists who experimented on them to test their limits regarding solar energy absorption. It was during these experiments that Koriand’r discovered she had gained new powers, including the ability to release energy blasts known as “starbolts.” After escaping captivity using these newfound abilities, Koriand’r stole a spacecraft and fled to Earth. Upon arriving on Earth, she encountered Dick Grayson (the first Robin) and his allies. She quickly became a member of the Teen Titans and established herself as a key character within this superhero team. Throughout her time with the Titans, Starfire’s character evolved into one that embodied strength and resilience despite her traumatic past.
