Persona Attributes

Zombies:

Shambler.

The Shambler is a common zombie found in Guts & Blackpowder. It is the main zombie type found in Guts & Blackpowder. While it is weak on its own, its strength lies in its overwhelming numbers and ability to infect players.

Corridor.

The Runner is a common zombie found in Guts & Blackpowder. It is a fast zombie that specializes in ambushing players and killing lone players.

Bombardier.

The Bomber (known internally as the "Barrel Zombie") is a common zombie found in Guts & Blackpowder. It is a zombie equipped with a barrel of gunpowder and a torch, capable of instantly killing players and destroying buildings.

Zapper.

The Sapper Zombie (commonly called "Zapper") is a special short-range zombie that deals high amounts of damage with its axe. It has the appearance of a randomly selected nation.

Lighter.

The Lighter is a special zombie found in Guts & Blackpowder . The Lighter specializes in area denial and is distinguished by its charred flesh and shriveled appearance. The bones of its right arm are exposed, blackened by ash, and in its left arm it carries a small oil lamp.

Crawler.

The Crawler is a command-only zombie that has the appearance of the Shambler, but without legs, causing blood to spill from the torso. It causes more infections than any other zombie.

Parasite.

The Parasite was intended to be another generic zombie that would spit its bile at players. When the bile hits, it applies a debuff that slowly infects the player. The Parasite will keep its distance, but will attack when there are large groups of zombies or it is completely alone. It was later scrapped due to being another generic zombie.

Bruiser.

Among the most popular slashing zombies, the Bruiser was intended to be the generic tank zombie of the game. The Bruiser was planned to grab and put players in a chokehold until they were hit enough times by a melee (Stake 5, Sabre 3, Axe 2) or shot at once, and had the ability to do a sweeping punch if there were too many players around them, much like a maniac. They would let go after being shot, and could withstand damage from headshots. Immunity to headshots was later given to the Bruiser, Zapper, and then it was scrapped entirely due to how generic it was.

Cuirassier.

The Cuirassier was intended to be a zombie that encouraged the use of firearms rather than melee combat. However, it is not yet known whether or not it will be included in the game.

At Plaga.

The infection, referred to in-universe as "The Plague", is an unknown disease with an incredibly high mortality rate; its origins are currently unknown. The Plague first appeared after the Russo-Turkish War (1806-1812), when Russian troops began returning from the war to fight Napoleon. Sometime after the burning of Moscow, the Plague took on its reanimation properties. Sinners who have not accepted Christ and repented of their sins, upon succumbing to the infection, are reanimated. Shamblers and other zombies are the souls of the damned trapped within their own dead bodies.

Maps:

Berezina Russia.

With the emergence of the zombie threat, French forces begin a hasty retreat from Russia. As the French forces retreat, a trigger-happy Frenchman blows up the initial bridge over the Berezina, leaving Field Marshal Claude-Victor Perrin's Ninth Corps and the stragglers from the original bridge camp trapped on the other side of the Berezina. Field Marshal Victor orders the construction of a new bridge over the Berezina. Several of his forces take carriages to retrieve logs from nearby areas and deliver them to the players. Following the successful construction of the bridge, the French Ninth Army Corps successfully withdraws the remainder of its forces across the Berezina, led by cuirassiers and supply wagons.

Vardø Norway.

Royal Navy sailors aboard HMS Undaunted lose a tugboat carrying several infected individuals in a snowstorm, and it crashes on the island of Vardøya. The next day, the Royal Navy discovers that the ship has crashed on the island, and HMS Undaunted sends a 15-man crew aboard a boat to investigate the island. Only four of the Royal Navy sailors return. The Royal Marines and sailors discover zombies, which they refer to as "madmen turning cannibal", in the nearby village of Vardø and flee, killing several of them. The crew of HMS Undaunted remain docked in a nearby harbour, as another snowstorm approaches. Believing that the Royal Marines on the island may still be alive, they remain on the lookout for a signal from the nearby lighthouse. The Danish soldiers within the main compound of the fortress retreat to the basement of one of the buildings within the compound, but as the Shamblers attack and kill several Danish soldiers, they attempt to escape to the docks. The Danish soldiers ring the nearby church bell and the crew of HMS Undaunted, believing it to be a signal from their expedition group, respond with a signal. The Danish soldiers make their way to the lighthouse and activate it, guiding HMS Undaunted to their position. The events occurring at Vardøhus Fortress remain largely unknown to the general public until 1815, when Danish scientists and researchers head to the fortress to investigate. Numerous bodies are recovered, including several soldiers and a runner trapped in the ice, still alive and with his eyes moving. The bodies are returned from Vardøhus to Copenhagen by the researchers in 1815.

Donostia Spain

During the siege of San Sebastian, British and Portuguese soldiers are captured by the French and imprisoned in the fortress at the top of the island. The French forces then encounter the undead and fight a long battle throughout the night. Inevitably, a French officer decides to free the British/Portuguese prisoners and arm them against the threat. These forces then fight their way through San Sebastian and encounter Barry, a soldier from the 5th Infantry Regiment. The survivors are extracted to the HMS Undaunted. One of the survivors succumbs to the infection and kills the captain of the HMS Undaunted. The French and British forces split up, with the British landing on the coast of Spain and being led by Spanish guerrilla forces across the countryside.

Leipzig Germany.

In the Battle of Leipzig, Coalition and French forces simultaneously confront the infection. Many regiments from different nations, formerly enemies, unite to escape the burning city. As a result, Napoleon and most other important leaders became aware of the nature of the infection and consequently called for a ceasefire. The fighting in the Napoleonic Wars officially ends. Jacob, a French engineer, mistakenly leaves his fuse too short to escape and commits suicide by detonating the barrel used to save you and your allies.

Germany.

With mass panic ensuing in Germany, terrified civilians within the areas surrounding Frankfurt round up hundreds of innocent civilians and force them into the basement of Pfalzgrafenstein Castle. Field Marshal Blücher and elements of the 1. Garde zu Fuss, the 13. Infantry Regiment, and the 18. Infantry Regiment (as well as a Russian and Bavarian pontoon construction division) arrive in Kaub, in an effort to pursue Napoleon and win the Napoleonic Wars no matter the cost, and begin looting Pfalzgrafenstein Castle for supplies when their forces come across the basement. The door is flung open and nearly all of Blucher's forces are killed attempting to close the basement, with the surviving forces being the respawning players, along with Blucher (now infected) and his accompanying officer. When the players arrive in Kaub, they are elements of the German rearguard (as well as Bavarian and Austrian stragglers attempting to return home). Blucher orders the players to secure the castle to ensure safe passage for the Prussian army across the Rhine River. Blücher later succumbs to the infection and kills the officer accompanying him. After securing Pfalzgrafenstein Castle, the players dig in and wait for the Prussian army to retreat. Following the events of Kaub, the Prussian army is virtually out of action due to the collapse of the Prussian chain of command.

Tirol Bavaria

The Bavarian forces, along with most of the Allied armies, are disorganized and panicked, with Stuttgart and Wurttemberg succumbing to the Plague. The Bavarian Army Command orders elements of the Bavarian army to pass over the Alps and split up to the north. The forces in Tyrolean Village, after traveling through a series of desolate villages, find themselves surrounded on all four sides and steadily losing numbers due to the infection and being hampered by the Zombies. The Bavarian and Austrian forces in Tyrolean Village, knowing they are surrounded, make a last stand against the Plague before succumbing to the infection. Erdhard Dentlinger, a soldier of the 5th Bavarian Infantry, leaves a note for players to find.

Ligny Bélgica.

The Ferme d'En-haut was the last stronghold of the forces stationed at Ligny. The action takes place sometime in 1815 as a precursor to the events of Waterloo. The forces at Ligny were reduced to 20 men, with 3 bags of flour, 40 bottles of juice and a bag of five loaves of bread.

Waterloo Bélgica.

La Haye Sainte is one of the last positions of the British and French forces at Waterloo, before Hougoumont. La Haye Sainte falls at 8:35 on 18 June 1815. Players can find a torn note from an unknown soldier near a shed at the front of the farm, surrounded by blood.

Paper:

La Haye Sainte has fallen. At 8:35 on the 18th of June, the French and German-English forces fell to the masses of the undead. From what can be gathered, I believe that not a single man has escaped the panting of the undead. What remains of our garrison has barricaded the attic. We are short on time and it seems that all attempts at escape will be futile. We are prepared for the inevitable. To the forces of Hougoumont, good luck and a good day. —George Von Barin

Waterloo Bélgica.

Hougoumont is the last stand of British, German, and French forces at Hougoumont Farm in Waterloo. Hougoumont's soldiers intentionally sacrifice themselves to allow the rest of the French army to retreat from Waterloo. It takes place shortly after La Haye Sainte (which is only a few miles from Hougoumont). Players can find a Britannia Herald newspaper on the desk in the entrance building, in which various events happening in the world are discussed.

Newspapers:

PEACE IN UNPLEASANT CIRCUMSTANCES TRADE AGREEMENTS WITH THE UNITED STATES SHIP QUARANTINE OFF DOVER THE BRITISH ARMY MOBILIZED TO HELP ITS ALLIES WHY IS IT ALWAYS THE PLAGUE? LIST OF PERSONS CONSIDERED MISSING AFTER EVACUATION FROM SPAIN FIRST-HAND ACCOUNT OF THE PLAGUE.

Waterloo Bélgica.

Shortly before the defence of Hougoumont, the British army abandons the French forces at Waterloo and retreats, resulting in the French forces being overwhelmed. The defence of Hougoumont and La Haye Sainte provides the main French forces with the time needed to properly retreat from Waterloo. Hougoumont falls at 2:00 a.m. on 19 June 1815.

Paris France.

Paris is in the midst of a large-scale evacuation, with tens of thousands of undead leaving the city in ruins. Jean is a French soldier, holding out with his regiment at Notre Dame, and takes advantage of the players' arrival to begin the full evacuation of civilians from Notre Dame. At the end of the evacuation, Jean's regiment rings the bells of Notre Dame to alert the ferryman, originally assigned to his regiment, to rescue the players. Players can find a number of notes that have been left within the walls of the Catacombs, left by Parisians during the arrival of the zombies. Some of them are references to movies like Shaun of the Dead, such as "The dead will walk the earth," while others are references to biblical scriptures, such as "Zechariah 14:12" (which reads as follows: "And this will be the plague with which the Lord will strike all the people who fought against Jerusalem: Their flesh will consume away while they stand, and their eyes will consume away in their sockets, and their tongues will dissolve in their mouths.").

Copenhagen Denmark.

Following the arrival of two research ships returning from Vardøhus Fortress and a subsequent outbreak of the plague, the city of Copenhagen has been placed under total quarantine by the Royal Navy. The undead have arrived in the city and the Royal Navy intends to prevent any survivors from leaving in order to prevent the spread of the plague. The Royal Navy conducts an extensive bombardment of the city using Congreve rockets, leaving the city completely in flames. You and your team, stragglers from the Danish Army and Home Guard, make an effort to evacuate the city and escape. Players can find three separate articles from the Ørnen Stolpe (Eagle Post), a Danish newspaper.
