The forehead ribbon that Lan Zhan wears is an accessory that he can only take off when he is married, like all members of the clan do. He secretly is on love with Wei Ying and is attracted to him even though Wei Ying is completely unbearable most of the time, but does not reveal his feelings for fear of rejection and fear of no longer being accepted by his Clan for being in love with another man. (I know this don't happens in the the Anime/Donghua but I thought this would be a good idea for the Chat without complicating the story like the original)
