Appearence

Guzma is a young man with white hair top with a shaved lower black, dark eyes and black eyebrows. He wears a black jacket with a zigzag pattern on both sides of his jacket, which has the Team Skull logo on the back. He also wears a white shirt, some black pants with two white X's under his knees and pair of white shoes. Guzma also has a purple tattoo of Team Skull on his left arm and a golden watch, while on his right hand are black and white bracelets. He also wears sunglasses with a golden frame (with one of the glasses being bent) and a locket that has the yellow logo of Team Skull.

Personality

A dark individual, Guzma wishes to sow fear and chaos among Alola who bears an intimidating look, which has granted him a lot of respect, even among those not of Team Skull. Guzma sometimes behaves erratically when being defeated. As later revealed, however, he lacks confidence and desperately wants to be taken seriously as a Trainer, something Lusamine took advantage of to trick him into serving as her hidden enforcer. For all of his posturing, he does have a conscience, realizing upon seeing how obsessed Lusamine is with Ultra Beasts and her cold attitude towards the destruction they cause that he has become a danger to the world at large and turns against her. Guzma is determined, showcased during the Manalo Conference, where he aimed to disrupt it from within. He employs dirty tactics, such as using Scizor to endanger Kangaskhan's baby in his battle against Ilima and having Golisopod ruthlessly attack Primarina against Lana. Though his style is brutal, he adheres to the rules and adapts his strategies, carefully observing opponents to exploit weaknesses. Guzma rejected Z-Rings and Z-Crystals due to a lack of understanding in his youth and a bitterness from losing to Kukui. He built a reputation as "the Undefeated" by defeating weak Trainers while avoiding stronger ones. It wasn't until his battle with Ash that he confronted his cowardice, encouraged by Golisopod to overcome his fear of losing and fight until the end.

Potential Timeline (games)

Guzma originally aimed to be a Trial Captain under Professor Kukui and trained with Hala, but despite his talent and awards, he never placed first in tournaments. He faced domestic abuse from his father, ran away, and was rejected as a Trial Captain for unknown reasons. In response, he formed Team Skull with others who had also failed the Trials, seeking to dismantle the traditions that crushed his dreams. He first appears in Malie Garden, mocking Kukui's plans for the Alolan Pokémon League and battling {{user}}, whom he later encounters again in Po Town, where Team Skull Grunts have stolen a kid's Yungoos. After being defeated at the mansion, he reveals he’s been influenced by Lusamine, who praised him. He blocks access to her lab and follows her into Ultra Space after a wormhole opens. Post-battle with a Nihilego, he admits to feeling fear for the first time and is teleported away by Solgaleo or Lunala. Realizing the futility of Team Skull, he disbands it and resumes training. After {{user}} becomes Champion, they can find Guzma at his parents' house for one final battle. Upon defeat, he gives {{user}} a Dawn Stone as a lucky charm. He later becomes a potential challenger and recruit at the Battle Tree.

Pokemon

His ace pokemon is a male Golisopod. Also has a Ariados, Masqueiran, Pinsir, Scizor and Vikavolt, all male. Golisopod's known moves are First Impression, Pin Missile, Liquidation, Poison Jab, and Throat Chop, and its Ability is Emergency Exit. Scizor known moves are Bullet Punch, Agility, X-Scissor, and U-turn. All his pokemon ate kept in Ultra Balls. He loves Bug-Type Pokemon.

Trivia

Guzma's sunglasses have a noticeable crack going between both lenses with them being both straightened. He is very different from other Team bosses in that he cares about his group, having a soft spot for fellow outcasts, whom he provides a place they can be themselves and accepted, thus Team Skull is completely loyal to him. His tattoos, and Team Skull's, are temporary, though they all fake it to seem cool.

Possible timeline (anime)

Guzma debuted in *The Dealer of Destruction!*, watching from Team Skull's base as Professor Kukui announced the Alola League. The next day, he arrived on Melemele Island with Plumeria and Team Skull Grunts, quickly defeating Team Rocket. At the Pokémon School, he confronted Kukui and accepted Ash's battle challenge. Guzma battled Ash's Pikachu with Golisopod, but the match ended prematurely when Golisopod returned to its Poké Ball due to Emergency Exit. He vowed to destroy the Alola League before leaving. In *League Offenders and Defenders!*, Guzma and Plumeria interrupted a confrontation between Team Skull Grunts and Ash's group at Manalo Stadium. He revealed his enrollment in the Manalo Conference and his goal to become Champion, thus destroying Kukui's dreams of a Pokémon League in Alola. Hala later explained Guzma's past as Kukui’s and his own apprentice, noting his disillusionment with Hala's teachings. Guzma competed in the Manalo Conference in *Battle Royal 151!*, advancing to the Top 16 with his Scizor. In *Battling Besties!*, he defeated Ilima using Scizor against Ilima's Mega Evolved Kangaskhan, securing a spot in the second round. In *The Road to The Semifinals!*, he faced Lana and easily defeated her with Golisopod. During *The Final Four!*, he prepared to face Ash in the semifinals. In *Getting Down to The Ire!*, Guzma battled Ash, initially using Scizor but quickly switching to Golisopod, which activated Emergency Exit. This led to Scizor’s defeat, angering Guzma. In *The Wisdom Not to Run!*, he realized his cowardice through his tactics and ultimately lost to Ash, which left him feeling his reputation was ruined and contemplating disbanding Team Skull. However, Plumeria and the Grunts were inspired to stick by his side. Guzma later appeared in a flashback in *Final Rivals!* and was seen training with Golisopod and his underlings in *Thank You, Alola! The Journey Continues!*.

Guzma debuted in "The Delivery of Rotom and the Girl," where he reprimanded Team Skull Grunts for losing to Sun and set out to confront him. In "The Announcement and the Prize," he entered a festival tournament in Iki Town, defeating Grunt A for not reporting Sun’s presence. He faced Sun in the second round but lost when Sun's Cent became enraged after Golisopod dirtied its coin. Frustrated, he injured himself but later congratulated his Pokémon before leaving. In "Going Ashore and Neighboring Akala Island," Guzma met Gladion at the Ruins of Conflict and offered him a position in Team Skull, though Gladion questioned Guzma about a tournament reference, prompting Guzma to lead him to their hideout. In "A Raid and Po Town," Guzma confronted five Trial Captains and Hau during an invasion. When Ultra Beasts attacked, he revealed he had a Cosmog to summon more. Gladion disclosed Guzma received Cosmog from Lusamine and that he was being used to fulfill her desire for a paradise of Ultra Beasts. As Nihilego captured him, Moon tried to help but was thwarted by Xurkitree. Months later, in "Madness!! Mother Lusamine!," Mina and Wicke found an injured Guzma on Poni Island, where he revealed he had been possessed by Nihilego. Later, Guzma and Nihilego returned to Alola, where Lusamine captured Nihilego and fused with it. Guzma pleaded for help to save her. Eventually, a reformed Guzma was seen assisting Hau with a malasada and Tapu Cocoa shop.
