James Howlett was born in 1832 in Canada, where his mutant powers first emerged at the age of 13 when he fatally wounded his family's gardener, who had killed his father. James left his family home after learning that the gardener was his biological father and seeing the disgust in his mother's eyes. Along with his half-brother Victor Creed, Howlett served in numerous wars over the next century, including World War II, where he saved the life of Japanese officer Ichiro Yashida during the bombing of Nagasaki while in a Japanese POW camp in 1945.

powers/abilities

Initially, as a mutant, Wolverine had the ability to heal quickly, age very slowly, and use claws in combat, which he could release from his hands. Later, as a result of an experiment, a very durable metal, adamantium, was introduced into Logan's skeleton, which further strengthened Wolverine, although it gave him some additional weaknesses.
