Jibanyan (Yo-kai Watch)

Appearance

Jibanyan is a red-and-white-colored cat Yo-kai, with pink inner-ears and a chip on his left ear. He has yellow colored eyes with large pupils, his nose and inner-ears are dull shade of pink. Attached to his collar is an aquamarine colored bell, matching the hitodama flames at the end of his two tails. On the middle of his chest, Jibanyan wears a yellow haramaki which is always worn with several exceptions revealing nothing under there. He also stores Chocobars and several other items like magazines of Next HarMEOWny under it.

Personality

Jibanyan is a Yo-kai that has fierce determination to do anything such as being eager to fight over other Yo-kai that are causing trouble for him. Despite his motivation and power, he also slacks off on occasions if Nate's orders aren't important for him or when he's feeling lazy in general. He has an affinity for Chocobars and anything related to his favorite music group, Next HarMEOWny, to the point of dreaming of having his own chocobar factory and collection. Jibanyan also collects merchandise of Next HarMEOWny and has a private collection full of them including pinup magazines, music CDs and clothing. As a Yo-kai, he resorts to inspriting people to fight on-coming trucks after numerous failed attempts to do so by himself. Luckily, he is stopped from doing this and is then befriended by Nate and Whisper, whose house he later decides to move into. He initially shows a mischievous and carefree side, easily breaking the rules and nearly being exorcised and having to be saved by Nate. However, he quickly makes amends shortly thereafter.

Abilities

Jibanyan fights with his paws, whether it be for opposing Yo-kai or incoming trucks. He also attacks them with his signature Soultimate Move called Paws of Fury, which shows him rapidly attacking with his paws as other paws comes out from around him. Though Jibanyan cannot evolve, he can fuse with other Yo-kai instead resulting in his personality and power being changed. Fusing with Roughraff will make Jibanyan transform into Baddinyan, giving him a more rebellious look while fusion with Coughkoff turns him into Thornyan which makes him spiky and feeling sickly. Jibanyan can also fuse into Buchinyan by coming into contact with Whisper, combining both of their powers. With the Yo-kai Watch Model Zero, Jibanyan has three additional Soultimate Moves that can be summoned via the Z Medals resulting in a different pose and a comedy-based attack. They are of Nyaight, Nyext and Victory. According to their description in Yo-kai Watch 2, they are passed down from Jibanyan's family.

History

Rudy first appears during a flashback in The Spooky Intersection. He and Amy were the best of friends, always having fun together until Rudy was hit by an oncoming truck on a crosswalk and became the Yo-kai Jibanyan after his death. Jibanyan relives his life again as Rudy in Jibanyan's Secret, after unexpectedly being sent back in time by Kin and Gin. Before Amy was about to get hit by a truck, Kin and Gin stops Rudy in the midst of the occurrence and asks him if he really wants to stay alive as a regular cat rather than a Yo-kai in hopes of succeeding their plan of changing the timeline, but Rudy rejects the offer and sacrifices his life to save Amy from getting hit by a truck at the intersection. Jibanyan was originally a normal red cat, named Rudy who was owned by a teenage girl named Amy. They had a strong bond before Rudy got run over by a truck, causing Rudy to turn into a Yo-kai. Amy was so sad about his death, calling it "lame". Jibanyan misinterpreted as an insult, and thought of that since. In Jibanyan's Secret Past, he met three other cat Yo-kai, who are Pounce de Leon, Sir Pouncalot and Alfred, right after he became a Yo-kai.

Trivia

In The Spooky Intersection, it is revealed that the victims he inspirits would act like a cat, while having his two flaming tails poke out of the victim's backside. Though, he has only shown to do this once. He and Tomnyan have a lot in common, with the most iconic being their backstories. The only difference to their backstories is that Jibanyan’s owner was named Amy, whereas Tomnyan’s owner was named Emily and that Jibanyan died saving Amy from a speeding truck when she crossed during a green light whereas Tomnyan died saving Emily from a speeding truck since she was not aware because she had her earphones on. Albeit still having contact with Whisper, as shown in M04, he does not seem to have any contact or even remember Nate. Because of his personality in the Shadowside series, his respect is not easily earned. But after seeing Summer save a kitten from getting hit by a speeding truck, he quickly jumps in to save her. This could be because she briefly reminded him of Amy during that scene. Jibanyan is the first and only Yo-kai from the Shadowside series to revert back to his original form from the present series. In his case, it was after regaining his memories. In EX002, his Onechanside is multiple clones of himself that could fill the entire planet. In EX004, his Onechanside transforms him into MMM Jibanyan. As of EX008, his Onechanside allows the Watch holder to summon random befriended Yo-kai to fight alongside Jibanyan. It is shown in EP179 that his human counterpart would have dark brown hair, similar to Nate's, but he still retains his red cat ears and his fangs.
