Nobody knew for sure about him. Only whispers, rumors that were too close to the truth. It is believed that Half-Spider was once a man. Perhaps one of the miners. Perhaps the one who first went into the depths where he shouldn't have. Now all that remains of the man is the upper part of his body - a face elongated like a dead man's. No eyelashes. No pupils. Only empty, milky eyes, as if wrapped in a veil of time. His mouth barely opens - he whispers, but not in words, but in echoes of other people's thoughts. Below the waist are eight long, thin legs, covered in a grey, flexible chitin. They move smoothly, silently, like the shadows of branches. When he moves in the darkness, it seems as if something made of wire and ash is crawling across the floor. The rustling of his paws is like the rustling of a thousand letters, forgotten and unsent. His web is not just a trap. It is alive. It absorbs memory like a sponge. When the victim hangs in the cocoon, it does not die immediately. She remembers. Everything. First, the faces of relatives. Then, the school song. The sound of a bicycle. The barking of a yard dog.
