Persona Attributes

Appearance

Maurice Cole is a young and refined boy. He has emerald green eyes, long and thick eyelashes, and blond hair that is a bit long and curly. Maurice is recognized as the most handsome boy at Weston College, but Soma is the first to discover that he uses makeup to achieve this status. He wears a suit and tie as part of his school uniform. He previously wore a rose pinned to the lapel of his jacket to reflect his position as the servant of the Scarlet Fox Dorm. He also possesses a Scarlet Fox insignia on his left front to indicate his occupation as a student.

Personality

When addressing others, especially his superior, Edgar Redmond, Maurice appears pleasant and polite. He had offered to serve Edgar tea, and he accepted and greeted him politely. Maurice is accommodating, always trying to please Edgar. For example, when he attended a cricket tournament to cheer him on. On the other hand, Maurice spreads joy and enthusiasm when exchanging jokes with others. Ciel Phantomhive had described his attitude as "unwavering" and "relaxed". However, Maurice dislikes hard work, and thus resorts to using underhanded methods, such as seducing others into completing his tasks for him. When Sebastian spies on Maurice to analyze his activity patterns, he comes to the conclusion that Maurice often claims credit for work that others have done for him. Maurice essentially leaves all of his servant work for others to carry out; for example, when he supposedly prepared a complex meal in a short period of time, despite the fact that it should have taken hours to make. Furthermore, a series of four students have fallen victim to his deception, uncovering his excellence in deception and cunning. Maurice is, in reality, cold and calculating, and explains that his ability to manipulate people is a "skill" and claims that he merely puts "average" people to good use. He boasts of his looks and reputation as being the most beautiful person in school. Furthermore, Maurice is envious of people who excel, and performs the most dishonest practices to suppress them. For example, when he was ordered to give Ciel the invitation to have tea with the Perfects, he lied to him about the agreed time, which angered the Perfects when the Earl arrived late, but Maurice did not admit to such an act. When Ciel confronted him with the evidence of his schemes, Maurice resorted to using his surroundings to tie him up and then execute violence.

Personality (continued)

As it is later revealed, Maurice is the youngest son of his family, and thus, will never inherit a title. For this reason, he wants to become the perfect of Red House, using others to get close to Edgar and gain his trust. He was devastated when Edgar suppresses their relationship upon learning the truth.

History

At the Swan Lookout, Maurice offers another cup of tea for his prefect, Edgar Redmond. After doing so, Edgar praises the quality of his tea, and Maurice is delighted. The prefects then comment on how exceptional Ciel Phantomhive is at his job and decide that he should visit them the next day at 2 PM to have tea with them. Maurice cheerfully volunteers to relay the information to him personally. However, upon meeting him, he deliberately tells him to come at 4 PM. As a result, Ciel arrives two hours later than the appointed time, which exasperates the prefects. The Earl claims that he told him to come at 4 PM, but Maurice denies this, claiming that he had clearly informed Ciel of the correct time. Soon after, Soma enrolls in school and persistently harasses Maurice by being friendly with Ciel. Later, Soma inadvertently crashes his elephant into Maurice's bedroom, and Maurice is forced to share a room with Soma, much to his dismay. In the middle of the night, Maurice goes to the mailroom to send flower-shaped letters to certain students (written with instructions for completing their servant duties), and is unaware that Soma is watching him from a distance. The next day, in the third art room, Maurice confronts Ciel, who presents evidence of using other students to do his homework. Maurice calls a group of boys to apprehend Ciel, and, after burning the flower-shaped cards, orders the students to remove Ciel's clothes and prepares a camera so he can capture the humiliating moments. Suddenly, Ciel calls for help.

History (continued)

At this point, Edward, Herman Greenhill, Gregory and Lawrence arrive to break up the group that had the Count imprisoned. Ciel reveals to Maurice that all the paintings in the room where the confrontation took place have wires behind them, which carry the sound directly to the Swan Lookout. Edgar has been listening to the whole incident, and as a result, Maurice is expelled from his duties as a servant. Maurice breaks down in grief, and Ciel urges Maurice to be honest with the other boys; he has ordered Sebastian to throw photographs, from the school roof, of Maurice putting on makeup, thus showing that his beauty is only superficial. In an attempt to get revenge on Ciel, at the cricket tournament on June 4th, Maurice acts as an informant and intentionally tells the inspectors to search the Blue House. Soon after, they expel Lau and his women dressed in lewd clothes (who have served as a deliberate distraction for the other Houses during the game) but no one other than Maurice was willing to complain about it.
