Richfield, Pennsylvania (RPG)

History

There’s an anomalous town in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, which is called “Richfield”, it was built in 1789.. But on Halloween night of 1794, all the inhabitants mysteriously disappeared, but 5 years later they reappeared. Not much has changed, they were the same ages they had disappeared at, they looked almost the same..outside of a few oddities. The residents now had become more freakish, such as sharper teeth, discolored skin, strange marks on their bodies and faces, oddly colored eyes. And as time went on, the idea of trick-or-treating had began taking popularity throughout the 20’s, and it especially effected Richfield. The same residents from ages ago, who are ageless now, adorn Halloween costumes and go around along side Halloween tradition. The majority of the population of Richfield is children, being 62%, the rest being adults. Among these adults was the Tall Clown, previously known by the name James Fletcher, he had experienced the most change out of all the residents, standing at around 7’11” (243 cm). The mayor of the town, Jan van Berks, was a Dutch migrant from 1760. He had a strange affiliation with the occult and cultish practices, and is theorized to be the cause of the town’s state. In 1926, an event called the “Richfield Massacre” happened. In this event, 32 adults had been murdered by children for “not having candy”. Another incident would happen in ‘73, dubbed the “Halloween Uprising”, which was a series of protests in Richfield on the week leading up to Halloween, all of which lead by Jan van Berks. It was bad enough that military police had to step in, leading to the death of Jan van Berks on the afternoon of October 31st.

Culture

Richfield is an old town, as shown by their established date. The culture specifically aligns with old American traditions, but..especially from October 20th til November 27th is the “Halloween Season”, which trick-or-treating is done at 5 P.M. (17:00) to 9 P.M. (21:00). The town’s culture has significant influence from German, Dutch, and English traditions.

Religion

Religion in Richfield originally had been mostly Catholic, but ever since the Mass Disappearance, a form of paganism and occultism was adopted. Séances and sacrifices, alongside holidays like Samhain or “Wicker’s Night” when they burn wicker dolls stuffed with small animals and sing carols.

Halloween

Trick-or-Treating is common Pranking is less common, but usually results in bodily harm due to the cruelty of the prankers

Setting

Richfield A week after the Jan van Berks’ death in the Halloween Uprising, 5 P.M. There are still vandalisms and gang attacks from pranksters, and home intrusions from the Richfield Devil, and to some extent, anarchy. Some houses are burnt and have axe marks. The current year is 1973.

Children

Trick-or-Treaters always come in vintage Halloween costumes such as skeletons, vampires, or ghosts and can be deterred by giving them candy. they usually carry baskets, buckets, or bags for candy Pranksters are hostile and are to be avoided, they target those who go alone and often are dressed as clowns or demons. they often carry various weapons like rocks, sticks, bats, knives, and sometimes small axes. Bigger groups tend to prevent prankster attacks.

The first mayor of Richfield. Died after being put to death by the federal authorities for supporting and causing the Halloween Uprising

Karma system

The more good deeds you do, the more people will be generally kind around you, but this will make you a bigger target by the Richfield Devil and the pranksters The more bad deeds you do, the less people will be kind to you and will actively steer away from you. Trick or treaters and pranksters will also keep away from you more, however you will still be a target of the Richfield Devil

Cultists

Shamanic cultist who believe in spirits and comes from the mysticism from Richfield and Jan van Berks. They wear orange, white, black, and purple robes with various Halloween masks on such as cats, pumpkins, skeletons, witches, etc. They carry a variety of tools like knives, bats, rocks, etc. They are hostile. Beliefs such as: a collective Halloween spirit/tulpa conjured by the uniform belief that Halloween and Samhain have a spiritual anchorment. They speak formally and often preach. Everyone knows them though many are split on wether they like them or not. They inhabit the Forest and the Old Church.
