Satoru is a thin and fairly tall man, reaching 190 centimeters. His hair is white and he usually wears it combed upwards with spiky locks when he is working as a teacher or shaman; in his free time, he usually has all his hair disheveled and much of it tends to fall over his face, covering much of his forehead and eyes. His eyes are a peculiar light blue color and in his irises, an image similar to the sky tends to appear. He is considered attractive by many women. He often uses a dark-colored cloth to cover his eyes; while in the prequel series Tokyo Metropolitan Curse Technical School, Gojo's eyes are covered with white bandages. During his younger days, he used to wear sunglasses instead of bandages or cloth. His signature outfit consists of a high-collared black coat, long black pants, and black shoes; this same outfit, in the anime, is depicted in navy blue. Opting to dress more casually, Gojo wears dark, round glasses instead of a blindfold and wears rather casual clothing, usually dark, long-sleeved shirts and baggy pants. As a child, he used to wear traditional Japanese clothing consisting of a kimono and his haori had a pattern with shapes similar to dragonflies. At other times, he wore casual clothes such as light-colored sweatshirts and dark pants.

Satoru is a complex individual, as usually as a teacher he can be an authority figure assigned to teach newbies about the dangerous world of jujutsu, but he can be casual, friendly and playful towards people like his students and colleagues, but is indifferent and cruel towards people like the Shaman executives; he even has a dream of creating the best shamans to fight against them. He is very confident in his abilities and reputation as a powerful shaman. Casually dismissing Sukuna's personal threats, he could defeat the King of Curses easily. During his younger days, he was a rather arrogant person and constantly openly questioned why he needed to help humanity. However, after the death of Riko Amanai and the disappearance of Misato Kuroi, along with the betrayal of his former best friend Suguru Geto, caused him to mature greatly. Despite his laid-back and childish attitude, Satoru has moments where he becomes serious and ruthless, becoming quite ruthless when facing Curses and Curse users in combat. In his fight against Hanami, he broke his antlers and immobilized him before killing him. According to Suguru Geto, Satoru only uses his full power when no one is around him, although he only does this because he considers them to be a hindrance. He also has no problem ending innocent human lives if it can exorcise the Curses. In Shibuya, Satoru did not hesitate to kill a thousand modified humans. Unlike Kento Nanami, Satoru can be very cold and indifferent to the deaths of innocent people, yet he cares greatly for the lives of his students and fellow shamans, feeling guilty when Itadori was nearly killed by Sukuna. However, despite his haughtiness and strength, Satoru is more human than he appears. After defeating Toji, Satoru retrieved Riko's corpse with a sorrowful look, showing that although his recent cocksure victory temporarily clouded his feelings, he still felt some pain over her death. He attempted to kill the Star Religious members who were laughing at Riko's death, though was stopped by Suguru Geto, whom he relied on as a moral compass at the time, before taking any action. Furthermore, Satoru was later visibly horrified and panicked after learning that Suguru, his only best friend, had become a witch. Satoru attempted to reason with his friend, but eventually realized and accepted that he had lost the only person he truly saw as an equal. After having to finish off Suguru before further calamity arose, it was Satoru's trauma over losing his best friend that caused his final downfall in Shibuya. He was also distraught when Yuji seemingly died. Satoru is not afraid to defy the rules and go against the orders of the higher-ups and often goes behind their backs, such as when he decides not to report that Yuji Itadori was alive when everyone thought he was dead, frequently drawing the ire of people like Principal Gakuganji of the Kyoto Metropolitan Magic Technical College.

After Gojo recovered Riko Amanai's body, and in front of the Time Vessel Association he asked Suguru "Do you want me to kill them? Gojo's access to the Limitless technique, along with his Six Eyes ability, makes him the strongest sorcerer in Jujutsu Kaisen. The Limitless technique allows Gojo to distort and manipulate space, giving him a powerful advantage in fights against cursed spirits. Gojo's use of the Blue and Red Cursed Techniques grants him ranged attacks and the ability to generate intense gravitational force and repulsion, respectively. His Hollow Purple attack is his strongest regular technique. Among the many formidable jujutsu sorcerers in the world of Jujutsu Kaisen, Satoru Gojo stands out as the undisputed master of the Limitless technique. Gojo is frequently considered Jujutsu Kaisen's strongest sorcerer, and a key part of that is his access to the ridiculously powerful Limitless technique. Similar to the Six Eyes, Limitless is an inherited technique passed down within the Gojo family and works best in conjunction with the Six Eyes. Unlike other members of his clan, Gojo is an incredibly rare individual who was born with both Limitless and Six Eyes, and his ability to use both abilities has given him the reputation of the strongest sorcerer alive today. Bringing the concept of infinity to life, Limitless allows the user to distort and manipulate space at will, proving to be an integral arsenal during fights against special-grade cursed spirits. Gojo explains the concept of Limitless by stating that a convergence of infinite series prevents an opponent from hitting him directly, as the blow ends up hitting Infinity itself. This directly mirrors Achilles' Paradox, in which the Greek hero is theoretically unable to catch a tortoise due to the infinite amount of finite space separating the two. Limitless also causes any force attempting to penetrate Infinity to be slowed to the point of stopping altogether. Gojo can also use the Cursed Technique Lapse, or Blue, and the Cursed Technique Reverse, or Red, which give him powerful ranged attacks. Blue generates the power of attracting and outputting cursed energy; Gojo can use this to attack people with an intense gravitational force, or he can use it on himself to move at super speed, which, in turn, can make his physical attacks move fast enough to hit with incredible force. Blue and Red can also combine into Hollow Purple, a massive blast of pure destructive energy that annihilates everything in its path, and serves as Gojo's strongest regular technique in Jujutsu Kaisen. Beyond the usual applications of Limitless, of course, is Gojo's domain expansion, Unlimited Void. Gojo's Domain Expansion blasts his opponents with unlimited knowledge that renders them catatonic and allows Gojo to finish them off in an instant, and thanks to the Six Eyes reducing his cursed energy consumption to practically nothing, Gojo can use Unlimited Void multiple times in a row before exhausting himself. Even with all of that, Gojo still lost to Sukuna thanks to his utilization of Mahoraga, but his mastery of Limitless still served to make Gojo the strongest modern sorcerer in all of Jujutsu Kaisen.
