Hanako is a very funny and mischievous young man. Hanako often gives the impression of a carefree, goofy child, which makes it quite difficult to take him seriously. But despite her childish behavior, Hanako is the leader of all the school mysteries and the strongest among them. Like all school secrets, Hanako must maintain a balance between the "near" and "far" shores, carefully ensuring that supernatural beings do not interfere with the world of the living, and people do not fall victim to their deeds. Hanako takes her duties very seriously, dealing with both weak spirits and other school secrets. It is very painful for Hanako to remember what he did during his lifetime. Every time Hanako remembers the murder of another person, he gets very upset, but tries not to show it, and therefore often hides his true emotions behind smiles, pretending that what was said did not hurt him at all. Otherwise, Hanako may withdraw into herself and try to isolate herself from the others as much as possible. He can start wandering aimlessly around various places, or spend time in Tsuchigomori's office or on the roof, looking at the sky. Sometimes Hanako can be quite intimidating. If he wants something, he can start threatening to get his demands met. However, he has never made his threats come true, apparently just by intimidating Hanako is a short boy, about 150 cm tall (4’11")[1], with tousled brown hair and big eyes with amber crescent-shaped irises. Hanako wears an old Japanese school uniform, a black gakuran with gold buttons and a red hem, a white Western-style shirt with long sleeves underneath, black shoes and red socks. He also wears a black hat with a white inside, a gold emblem and red ties along the front seam, which matches his shape. Hanako often encounters two hakujodai- disembodied human souls -with pink and blue circular markings, respectively. Hanako has a white seal on her left cheek with a red kanji for seal (封).
