Basic overview

MK is a sociable individual who enjoys spending time with his friends and engaging in recreational activities such as playing games. However, his work performance is hindered by his tendency to become easily distracted, resulting in him neglecting his duties and occasionally feigning the delivery of noodles to conceal his inattention.[21] MK is an avid admirer of the Monkey King, claiming to have extensive knowledge of his history and background. Nevertheless, he has acknowledged that he has not paid attention to the parts of Journey to the West that weren't about Monkey King.

Personality

MK cares a lot about his friends and is willing to do whatever it takes to protect and be there for them, even risking his own life just to comfort his best friend after having an emotional breakdown.[23] MK is caring, as he accepts and encourages the help of Red Son and Macaque, even though both were his enemies at the time.[7][24] He believes that things cannot be judged its worst qualities, and that there is perfection in imperfection. MK's beliefs in heroism have allowed him to be manipulated on several occasions. Despite having shown care for his friends and himself, he has acted a bit of a jerk in the past and has shown a bit of an ego, which stems from compensating his insecurities and lack of confidence in himself. He was inconsiderate to some of his friends' feelings in earlier episodes, such as Mei—but he is not like this not all the time, and he apologizes properly when confronted and tries to make up for it.[25][12] MK has also said that he often plays dumb to lighten the mood.[26]

MK is a teenager with spiky black hair that's kept up by a red bandana. He is 5'5, has thick eyebrows, and has a chipped tooth. He has tanned skin.

Pigsy is a short pink pig with a round build. He has whiskers on his cheeks and head. Pigsy is the owner and head chef of Pigsy's Noodles, the descendant of Zhu Bajie, as well as a member of the Monkie Kids. Some time ago he found a young MK outside of his restaurant and took him in. Pigsy is an incredibly short-tempered, stubborn yet loyal and good-hearted pig-man. He cares about MK greatly and is concerned that the Monkey King isn't good for him. Pigsy values tradition and hard-work.

Tang

Tang is an adult man with smooth black hair that is combed to the side. He wears round, gold rimmed glasses. His eyes are a medium brown. Tang, occasionally known as Mr. Tang, is a member of the Monkie Kids. After the Demon Bull King was freed from his imprisonment, Tang was one of the four members that assisted MK in his quest to give the Golden Staff to the Monkey King. Eventually, Tang and the others celebrated when MK defeated the Demon Bull King. As an expert on the legends of Monkey King, Tang is very well-informed and often helps the team with his knowledge. He is obsessed with noodles and can even tell MK some of them to get free ones in return.[7] He shows a large amount of pride and gets very excited to tell stories about the old legends.[8] He is often stress eats.[9] Tang prefers to cram rather than study.[2] Despite describing himself as relaxed and cool, Tang is quite cowardly when it comes to demons, especially ones he thinks are going to eat him, though he will always pull through and be brave when he needs to.

Mei

Mei is a young woman, presumably a teenager. She has short chin-length black hair with two small pigtails, straight bangs, and two dyed green highlights framing her face. The back of her hair spikes out at the bottom. The silhouette of her hair also resembles the head of a dragon. She wears pale pink lipstick, and a comical close up implies her eyes are green.[19] Mei Dragon is a friend of MK and a member of the Dragon Clan and the Monkie Kids. After the Demon Bull King was freed from his five hundred year-long imprisonment, Mei, along with the rest of MK's team, went on a quest to give the Golden Staff to the Monkey King. However, when Mei, MK, and Pigsy went at the Flaming Mountains, Princess Iron Fan arrives and presumably kills MK. Despite this, Mei and the others found out that MK survived and celebrated when he defeated the Demon Bull King. Mei is overall an outgoing, enthusiastic, and eccentric girl who loves racing, video games and hanging out with her friends. She can be overly optimistic as well as rather naive, shown when she remarks that she thinks Pigsy's noodle shop receiving a bad review is better than getting no reviews at all. Despite her kindness, Mei is still snarky and seemingly enjoys messing with people.[10] Mei is a very affectionate person, often hugging and making frequent contact with just about anyone she considers to be a friend. Mei is also fiercely protective of her friends and becomes incredibly murderous and angry when someone attempts to hurt them. Mei is also very hot tempered and has no issue telling somebody that she's angry with them.[11][12] Mei's temper often leads to her attacking before thinking and her becoming incredibly frustrated at times. Despite her confident appearance, Mei doubts herself and doesn't tell others when something is wrong.[13] She also became jealous of her other friends going on adventures with MK without her. Mei evidently takes great pride in her heritage.

Monkey King/Sun Wukong

The Monkey King is an anthropomorphic monkey relatively the size of an average human. He has orange fur covering his body and tail, and peach skin on his torso, face, ears, knees, hands, and feet. The fur on his head is either slicked back or standing upwards, depending on his appearance. He has a pink heart-shaped marking across his face, golden eyes with a long lashes, and thick black eyebrows. Sun Wukong, also known as the Monkey King, is a legendary hero. Long ago, he waged war on the Celestial Court but was subdued, leading him to go on a journey westward with several other pilgrims. He later chose MK to be his successor. The Monkey King is a confident individual, especially in battle. He doesn't shy away from a challenge, regardless of the opponent's size or strength. Like MK he often 'plays dumb' or acts a little silly to lighten the mood.[11] Despite his bombastic attitude, the Monkey King has terrible stage fright.[12]

Macaque

Macaque has a similar appearance to the Monkey King. He has dark fur covering his body and tail, and tan fur on his torso, face, ears, and hands. He has a feathered red marking across golden eyes with a prominent wing and bushy black eyebrows. Though it is often hidden, Macaque has a scar over his right eye, leaving a gash through his eyebrow and the eye white. Macaque (short for Six-Eared Macaque) is a demon and a former friend of the Monkey King. In the past, Macaque was originally timid, choosing to follow others instead of making his own options as he and Monkey King once promised to have a simple life together in Flower Fruit Mountain.[2] Following the events of the assault on the Celestial Realm, which resulted his broken friendship with Monkey King, Macaque became a shady individual, preferring to only look out for himself and will do almost anything to ensure his own safety.[7] He is manipulative, confident, and often uses smooth-talk to belittle his enemies.[8] Macaque enjoys theatrics and is very dramatic.[3] He is also very petty.

Redson

Red Son is the son of the Demon Bull King and Princess Iron Fan. Five hundred years after the Demon Bull King's imprisonment, Red Son freed his father by using his Power Glove, thus reuniting the Demon Bull Family as they led an army of Bull Clones that Red Son created. Red Son looks akin to an average human teenager. He has red hair tied into a high ponytail, a section of it stands up at his widows peak with a yellow highlight resembling fire. He also has a 'X' shaped scar on his right cheek and a red dot on his forehead. Red Son is an intelligent, prideful, and impressively short-tempered demon. He is an inventor of sorts, creating a multitude of weapons to aid the Demon Bull Family in their rise to power, though many of them fail in execution.[9] He has a flair for the dramatic and makes a show out of the majority of his actions. Befitting his maniacal personality, he is prone to outbursts of rage whenever things do not go his way, or when he finds himself challenged by those he deems "inferior", which is most people. He often belittles and insults his opponents, practically never calling any of them by name. He greatly admires his father for his strength and clearly respects his mother, though this doesn't keep him from snapping at them from time to time.[8] He desperately craves approval from both of them.[7]
