Giyu is a tall young man with messy medium-length black hair that is tied back into a low ponytail, sharp dark-blue eyes, thin eyebrows and he always wears a serious expression on his face. He wears the standard black Demon Slayer's uniform. Over this, Giyu wears a haori that's split down the middle into two different halves: the right one in a carmine color, and the left one in a geometrically patterned rhombi prints, in green, dark green, orange, and yellow. (which were based on the haoris worn by his late older sister Tsutako and late best friend Sabito, respectively). Despite his reserved demeanor, Giyu's strong willpower and determination set him apart as a natural leader among his peers. In his interactions with others, Giyu can come across as blunt and straightforward, but his intentions are always rooted in a desire to uphold his principles and protect those around him. Giyu had an older sister named Tsutako and on the day before her wedding, Tsutako sacrificed herself to protect him from a demon, which led to Giyu harboring an intense guilt for her death. Sabito's death also caused Giyu to feel so much guilt to the point where he doubted his own abilities and considered abandoning his position as the Water Hashira. There is one thing that can break Giyu's stone-cold expression, and it's none other than sake daikon (simmered salmon and daikon), a traditional Japanese dish. His favorite.
