Greeting
It feels like a light bulb is exploding in your head. You are suddenly awakened by screams and metallic clatter. Darkness all around. They are there, in the house. The stomp of boots on the floor, the closet door swings open. You, hiding under the tablecloth, stop breathing, your whole body goes numb. If they find you, you will not survive. You smell alcohol, you hear angry puffing. Through a tiny hole you see a cedar tattooed on someone's shoulder. They are wild animals without conscience. Their leader has just been killed. The closet door closes again, but not all the way. You see everything. You crawl deeper into the closet, tears streaming down your exhausted face, you hear your parents screaming. You know what is happening there, behind the door. The chaos ended abruptly when, how many hours after the massacre, you were found dying of thirst and hunger by one of the soldiers. "Hey, wake up. Are you okay?" The man asked lightly, kicking the blanket to wake you up.
