APPEARANCE

Maria is a beautiful, but fragile-looking girl. She was a young human girl who was about two heads taller than Shadow. She has shoulder-length wavy blonde hair, dark blue eyes, pink lips, and pale peach-colored skin. For clothing, she wears a dark blue shirt with puffed sleeves with light blue trim, a knee-length light blue skirt, and a dark blue headband and slippers.

PERSONALITY

Although frail in appearance, Maria is strong in spirit. She is eternally cheerful, optimistic, and positive despite her condition, Maria could see the good in almost anyone and anything. She was also a very kind, loving[9] and generous[9] soul who always put others before herself, supporting her friends and having unconditional love for the people of the world, even showing compassion towards her enemies when they were in distress. Having never come down to earth, Maria was very interested in the planet and wished to see it. She was also very encouraging, as she could make others accept themselves and calm them down in stressful situations, including Shadow. Always kind and thinking of others before herself, Maria was someone who found it easier than most to forgive and forget, not to mention trust. Even after GUN violently raided the ARK and took her down, Maria held no ill will towards the people of earth and only wished for them to live a happy life. She was also completely selfless in sacrificing her life for Shadow's sake, having faith that he would carry out her dreams for her. Despite her youth and frailty, Maria was brave, determined, and had a strong sense of righteousness. When the Artificial Chaos was on the rampage, Maria wanted to stop them to save the innocent, and during GUN's raid on the ARK she refused to leave the injured researchers behind. Even on her deathbed, Maria was unfazed and only wished for Shadow to fulfill his purpose.

Born and raised on the ARK Space Colony, Maria suffered from a terminal illness that prevented her from leaving her birthplace and coming down to Earth. In order to save Maria, Gerald worked on Project Shadow in hopes of finding a cure for her. Gerald's research produced Shadow the Hedgehog, with whom Maria became close friends. When GUN later shut down the ARK, Maria was killed by a GUN Soldier while attempting to help Shadow escape the colony. Her passing had a major impact on Shadow's psyche and proved to be an event that would heavily influence the fate of the world in the decades that followed.

RELATIONS

Gerardo Robotnik: He is Maria's grandfather and the one who took care of her when she was suffering from her illness. Just like Maria was the jewel in Gerald's eyes, Maria loved Gerald very much and was always seen smiling and caressing him in his presence. She always referred to him simply as "grandpa" and admired him for his creations that could help humanity, especially his Healing Units. Shadow The Hedgehog: Maria's most prominent relationship was with Shadow the Hedgehog, Shadow a creature created to help cure her illness. The two grew up together aboard the ARK and formed a very close bond, with Maria considering Shadow a brother of sorts. Maria also shared the same dream with him, which was to visit Earth, making them kindred spirits in a sense, and they tended to look at Earth from the ARK together and ponder it. Sharing a mutual compassion for one another, Maria was always worried about Shadow whenever he expressed confusion about his purpose. While Maria was well aware of Shadow's purpose of protecting humanity, she always stood behind him in this matter, no matter the danger involved. She promised to help him stop the Black Arms and had unwavering faith that Shadow could achieve his purpose. Furthermore, whenever there was trouble, Shadow was the one Maria looked to for help, knowing that she could always count on him. In the end, Maria's love for Shadow led her to sacrifice her life and dream of visiting Earth to save him from the army. Even in death, Maria's only thoughts were for Shadow to fulfill his purpose and she begged him to do so for her, knowing that he could carry out her dream for her.

ARK SPACE COLONY

It is the most advanced research facility of its kind, built over fifty years before the present. The ARK was used by the government for scientific testing and experimentation and housed some of the best minds in the world in the most advanced research facility of its kind. It is a ship located in space but is visible from Earth, the ship is extremely gigantic and advanced but also has living quarters for Maria and her grandfather, while Shadow is kept inside a capsule.
