Emilie de Rochefort, commonly known as Lili for short, is a character from the Tekken series. Along with Sergei Dragunov, Lili was one of two new characters introduced in Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection. Lili, a Monegasque high school student, is a member of the De Rochefort family. She is the only daughter of Mr. Rochefort, a wealthy oil magnate and head of Rochefort Enterprises. She resides in a luxurious suburban mansion with her father and her butler Sebastian.

Biography

Emilie 'Lili' de Rochefort is the only daughter of a wealthy Monegasque oil tycoon. Given her privileged background, Lili had a pampered upbringing. Four years before the 5th King of Iron Fist Tournament, Lili was kidnapped and held for ransom. During her captivity, Lili fought violently to break free and successfully defeated one of her kidnappers, sparking a hunger for conflict within her. Lili was released and found herself eager to continue fighting. Although her father disapproved of her newfound interest, Lili was able to attend several street fighting tournaments under the pretext of going on vacation. During this period, she received an invitation to the 5th Iron Fist Tey Tournament from an opponent she defeated in San Francisco. Lili realized that the host of the tournament was the Mishima Zaibatsu, a conglomerate that was causing problems for her father's business. She decided to enter the tournament in hopes of putting an end to her father's business problems. Asuka Kazama defeated Lili in The King of Iron Fist Tournament 5, and Lili's father learned that she had been fighting against his wishes. Lili was banned from leaving the house, leaving her unable to seek a rematch with Asuka. Soon after, the Rochefort oil fields fell into the hands of the Mishima Zaibatsu. His company fell into chaos and he collapsed due to stress. Worried about her father's well-being, Lili began formulating a plan to take back the oil fields from the Mishima Zaibatsu. While she was making her plans, The King of Iron Fist's sixth tournament was announced. Lili participated in the tournament to implement her plans and help her father.

At some point after Lili's participation in the tournament, Lili encountered Lars Alexandersson and Alisa Bosconovitch. She told them that she had not had the chance to fight Asuka and would imminently be returning home to Monaco. To aid in Lars and Alisa's conflict with the Mishima Zaibatsu and its leader, Jin Kazama, Lili provided them with a vehicle. Lili participated in The King of Iron Fist Tournament 7 without telling her father that she was attending. She faced off against Asuka. Asuka defeated Lili; however, Lili continued to do everything she could to get Asuka's attention, even buying her family's dojo and decorating it with roses. Lili entered The King of Iron Fist Tournament 8 when it was announced by Kazuya Mishima. She won the preliminary round of Europe Block B and moved on to the next round of the tournament held at a coliseum in Italy. Lili brought Asuka (who was not competing) to witness her participation in the tournament. Here, Lili witnessed Kazuya Mishima's rise to his True Devil form. Lili offered to fly Jin Kazama to Yakushima on her private jet so that he could follow the instructions she had been given. Lili and Asuka conducted reconnaissance in Yakushima to locate Kazuya's G Corporation forces. During the battle between Yggdrasil and the G Corporation forces, Lili and Asuka intervened in a fight between Alisa Bosconovitch and G Corporation's Jack-8, disabling Jack-8 before he could defeat Alisa.

Personality

Lili has a snobbish and frivolous personality. Although she has superficially good manners, she is often shown to be disdainful of other people's abilities and desires, as well as insensitive to their feelings. Lili also has a sadistic side, threatening people with violence or even beating a fallen opponent for no reason other than "fun". In contrast to her usual haughty attitude, Lili seems to care greatly for her father's well-being, and participates in the fifth and sixth King of Iron Fist Tournaments to oppose the Mishima Zaibatsu's encroachment on her business. Lili has great confidence in her fighting abilities, as evidenced by her winning and pre-match statements, despite her lack of formal training in combat or martial arts. To get around her father's disapproval of her fights, Lili participates in fights in secret or when he is too weak to oppose.

If Lili is chosen as the player character in Campaign mode, she is often depicted as curious even in the face of danger, intolerant of what she interprets as "bad manners", and amused by her opponents' novelty features. She regularly refers to fights as "games" and dismisses some fighters as "toys". Lili's materialistic side is also observable in this mode, as she insists that she will take Mokujin (whom she believes to be a doll) home with her and also wishes to make Kuma her pet. In addition to this, Lili is shown to be ungrateful and oblivious to the value of expensive items; in Campaign mode's story cutscenes, she provides a vehicle to Lars Alexandersson and Alisa Bosconovitch, telling them that it was gifted to her but she does not wish to keep it as she finds it "hideous". She is also not all that impressed with most of the large facilities or buildings tied to the G Corporation and the Mishima Zaibatsu, compared to other characters who are often surprised by how large the areas are.

Since her loss to Asuka Kazama during the King of Iron Fist Tournament V, Lili has thought of her as her rival and has been eager for a rematch. Lili's final scenes in Tekken 6 and Tekken Tag Tournament 2, and her character episode in Tekken 7, have all featured scenarios in which Lili and Asuka fight again (though none of them are yet confirmed as canon). Lili is depicted going to great lengths to engineer their rematch in her final scene of Tekken Tag Tournament 2, hiring actors to fight and take out Asuka, then claiming Asuka's title of 'Gang Mediator' and taunting her until she loses her temper and starts a fight. Lili's butler Sebastian interprets this attempt to solicit Asuka's attention as "another expression of [Lili's] affections". In the final scene of Asuka's Tekken 7 character episode, Lili reveals that she bought Asuka's father's dojo and will be moving there, which frustrates Asuka. In Tekken 8, Lili also shows her love for cats and owns a Siamese cat named Salt. In her introduction and victory animations, she can be seen chasing Salt or picking up the cat and hugging it close to her, showing her somewhat naive side as she doesn't seem to understand why the cat is running away or notices it struggling slightly to escape.

Appearance

Lili is a tall, blue-eyed teenage girl. She is the tallest fighter at 180 cm, which is further highlighted by her long legs and the high-heeled footwear she often wears. She has long, waist-length blonde hair in a hime cut. She is usually seen wearing a white, frilly Victorian-style minidress with long sleeves and fingerless gloves, a red plaid tie with matching socks and white high-heeled boots, as well as a ruby-red jewel on her tie. She also wears light makeup, such as pink lip gloss and light pink eyeshadow.

However, this time she has a goal beyond the simple glory of victory: infiltrating the Mishima Zaibatsu. Motivations: * Revenge for her family: Lili seeks revenge against the Mishima Zaibatsu, as she believes that this organization has harmed her family and many other people. * Stop Jin Kazama's plans: Like many other characters, Lili is concerned about Jin Kazama's destructive plans and wants to put an end to his threat. All of this in order to defeat her eternal rival, Asuka Kazama, who has beaten her twice in The King of Iron Fist Tournament. Lili buys the Kazama family dojo with her pocket money, decorates the entire dojo with roses, and issues Asuka a formal challenge. Imagining Asuka's angry face, Lili smiles elegantly as she pets her cat, Salt.

Character Episode Prologue: The last time the King of Iron Fist Tournament was held, Lili lost to her eternal rival, Asuka Kazama. The heiress of Rochefort devoted herself to training, hoping for a chance for revenge to regain her lost honour. One day, news of the tournament to decide the next head of the Mishima Zaibatsu reached Lili's ears. Seeing her opponent's name on the list, she went behind her father's back to enter the tournament and took advantage of her Asuka countermeasures. "Just you wait, Asuka. You'll get what you deserve." End of character episode: After defeating Asuka Kazama and winning the King of Iron Fist Tournament, Lili becomes the new CEO of the Mishima Zaibatsu. During her congratulatory speech, Lili announces that she promises to bring an optimistic outlook to the world. She then meets Leroy Smith with his dog, Sugar, but their conversation is interrupted by Marshall Law, who is promptly ignored. As Marshall is about to touch her, Lili quickly knocks him unconscious and Leroy laughs. Lili then walks away with Salt, leaving an unconscious Marshall behind with Leroy and Sugar. Summary of game events: Lili is one of the participants in Kazuya's King of Iron Fist Tournament, being one of the winners of the European Block, and Asuka is displeased that Lili dragged her all the way to Rome to watch Lili participate. Lili faces off against Azucena during the opening matches, but the pair's match is rendered pointless when the tournament is called off following an attack by Yggdrasil and the United Nations.

Lili then escorts Jin Kazama to Yakushima on her plane, with Xiaoyu, Panda, and Asuka accompanying her. Lili reveals the research she has done on Jin's family tree and explains the history of the Kazama clan being wiped out seven years ago when Yakushima was attacked, and that Jin's mother Jun Kazama was never heard from again. As they are about to reach Yakushima, Lili decides to split up so she and Asuka can reconnoiter for G Corporation forces, while Xiaoyu and Panda take Jin to the island shrine. During the war in Yakushima, Lili and Asuka land on the battlefield to save Alisa and defeat Jack-8 who was deployed by Nina Williams. In the good ending, Lili and Asuka are seen arguing with each other at Smith Coffee in New York.

Relations

Mr. de Rochefort: Her pacifist father. Her father does not wish for Lili to fight, but is often unable to stop her either, as she often takes part in fights in secret. Lili loves her father and often worries about his well-being, but regularly disobeys him and travels around the world to satisfy her hunger for street fighting. Asuka Kazama: Her arch-rival since Tekken 6 and her official partner in Street Fighter X Tekken. They fought each other in Tekken 7 and Lili decided to become a student at the Kazama-style traditional martial arts dojo. Lili also bought Asuka's family dojo, saving it from bankruptcy by the time of Tekken 8. Eliza: Imprisoned by the Rochefort family to find safety from the Sirius Archers and is supposedly Lili's sister. Sebastian: his butler. Lars Alexandersson: She gives him her old SUV to travel around in, during the Campaign mode story. Alisa Bosconovitch: She was with Lars when Lili gave him her old SUV. Lili saves Alisa from Jack-8 in the events of Tekken 8. Jin Kazama: Jin claimed the oil fields owned by Rochefort Enterprises, causing Lili's father to collapse. In Tekken 8, Lili aids in Jin's quest to defeat Kazuya by flying him on her private jet to Yakushima. Forest Law: She defeated him in a street fight in San Francisco. She later appears to have accepted his invitation to the Fifth Iron Fist Tournament. Leroy Smith: They have known each other since Tekken 8 and share dialogues about their pets.

Azucena Ortiz: Her new rival starting in Tekken 8, due to their differences over their respective favorite drink, between Lili's tea and Azucena's coffee. Hwoarang: She teamed up with him in a battle against Jin Kazama/Devil Jin in the Tekken 6 E3 2006 trailer (non-canon). They canonically meet in person during the 8th King of Iron Fist Tournament in the Colosseum of Destiny in Tekken 8's Story Mode. Lee Chaolan: She is a member of the Violet Systems all-female team (non-canon). Leo Kliesen: His personal assistant in the Online Tekken Comic (non-canon).

Gameplay

Lili has a lot of versatile moves and effective, easy-to-use attacks, benefiting from a long reach thanks to her long legs. Her damage output is surprisingly high, her counterattacks, juggles, and wall fights will eat away at her opponent's health. That being said, some of her most popular combos are easily recognizable and can leave her open to punishment. She's also somewhat slow, and virtually all of her attacks can be dodged, as she lacks many targeted attacks. However, she makes up for this with her ranged attacks, which can be used at mid- and long-range to prevent an opponent from getting close. However, her downsides aren't the best and are predictable, which can make it difficult for her to open up opponents. Lili also has a nice handful of attacks that involve jumping, which can bypass low levels, and she has a deadly okizeme ground game, making Lili terrifying to deal with when she successfully knocks you down. She also possesses an attack reversal, as well as a wall grab. She can take a back stance using Mirror Image, giving her access to more moves and specific attacks she can use to knock her flat on her back. Lili's Sidestep is considered to be one of the strongest in the series, and can avoid chains and attacks that would normally hit most of the playable cast. Lili also possesses a wave-adjacent stance known as Dew Glide, which can be used for combo extensions and as a way to move around with varied moves that can apply pressure against guarding opponents.

Tekken 8 gives you more options to work with to improve your mix-ups, with a new low kick from behind, a new mid kick that turns into a jumping kick that can evade highs and also a new low kick from stance, and additional moves that can be cancelled into your Feisty Rabbit and Dew Glide stances. Your Feisty Rabbit jumping stance has also been buffed, now able to be performed twice in a row (previously it was only possible to do this when under Heat). Much like the other fighters on the roster, his moveset gets noticeable upgrades thanks to the Heat mechanic; his Piercing Thorn becomes stronger and better at pressure, granting him positive frames when blocked. His low-level Feisty Rabbit also becomes stronger, as it knocks you down with a normal hit, giving him a stronger combo opportunity. He also has access to a back-and-forth attack in Heat that can be used as a strong finisher or as a way to continue juggles.

Fighting Style

Lili's wrestling style is characterized by gymnastics movements combined with many dance-like acrobatic maneuvers: graceful and versatile spins, flips, handstands, falls and pirouettes. This fighting style is learned and developed by Lili herself, as her father, who does not like fighting, would probably never allow her to practice any kind of formal martial arts training. This is probably why some of Lili's moves often reflect her background and personality, as she tends to adopt a lot of elegant and graceful poses while attacking. Even her generic attacks, such as her kicks and crouching punches, tend to have an air of elegance and grace to them. She also tends to gracefully place one or both of her arms behind her back when performing some moves.
