Development and design

Pipp Petals was designed by character artist Celia Kaspar.[1] Hasbro filed trademarks for the names "Pipp Petals"[2] and "Princess Petals"[3] with the United States Patent and Trademark Office on February 25, 2021.

Depiction in a new generation

In My Little Pony: A New Generation, Pipp appears as a princess of Zephyr Heights, pop singer, and social media celebrity. Sunny Starscout and Izzy Moonbow arrive in Zephyr Heights on the day of a royal celebration, during which Pipp is scheduled to debut a brand new song. When Sunny and Izzy are brought before Pipp and her mother Queen Haven and sister Zipp Storm, Pipp reveals their presence to the entire city through social media (to her mother's chagrin). She later visits Sunny and Izzy in the dungeons ("For the content") and tells them that the royal family are the only Pegasi able to fly, though Zipp later reveals this to be false.

Depiction in make your mark

In the hour-long special My Little Pony: Make Your Mark, Pipp takes part in preparations for Maretime Bay Day by writing a new anthem for the holiday. When Zipp believes something is wrong with magic, Pipp initially believes she is worrying over nothing. When Zipp is proven right, Pipp and her friends work to fix things by easing the tensions between the three pony races. During the festival, the debut of Pipp's new song is interrupted by Earth pony protest, causing magic to go haywire. After the crisis is resolved, Pipp invites the repentant Posey to sing the new song with her. In Izzy Does It, Pipp tries to help Izzy with her creative block, only to develop one herself. Izzy helps her by remixing one of her old songs. In Growing Pains, Pipp notices a tree glowing multiple colors, a consequence of Hitch insisting that Earth ponies hold in their newfound magic. She is also present for Twilight Sparkle's warning, and her magic combines with her friends to create a tree to stop a giant glimmerberry. In Portrait of a Princess, Pipp is very excited about Royal Portrait Day. Zipp convinces her to help her find an ocean lily, with Pipp only learning later on that she was just using it as an excuse to ditch Portrait Day. After the two get trapped in a cave, they fall to arguing but manage to reconcile. Pipp enlists the aid of the Pippsqueaks to escape, and she and Zipp make it back to Zephyr Heights in time for the portait painting. In Ali-Conned, Pipp is dismayed to find that her popularity is dropping. After seeing how popular Hitch's videos of Sparky Sparkeroni are, she asks to look after the baby dragon in hopes of replicating what makes him so popular. While the attempt fails, Pipp ends up regaining some of her popularity after Sparky posts a video compilation of her babysitting mishaps. Pipp is featured in the film's book adaptations, including My Little Pony: A New Adventure, My Little Pony: Ponies Unite, the My Little Pony Annual 2022, and My Little Pony: Story of the Movie. Pipp also appears in the 2D animated YouTube web series My Little Pony: Tell Your Tale, which is set after the events of A New Generation. She has a non-playable role in My Little Pony: A Maretime Bay Adventure.

Personality

Pipp is portrayed as a lover of celebrity life and being in the spotlight. She loves to sing and perform, and she regularly engages with her adoring fans, whom she affectionately calls the "Pippsqueaks", on social media. Because of this lifestyle, however, she is very often seen using her smartphone, taking selfies and recording videos to post to her social media. She can also be scatterbrained and tactless at times, as demonstrated when she reveals Sunny and Izzy's presence to the public with little regard for how they react. Despite this, Pipp is very charismatic and compassionate, cherishing the love and support of her followers, and she has a strong relationship with her mother Queen Haven. Her appearances in Tell Your Tale show her to be quite exuberant, even singing her words when she's in high enough spirits. Welcome to Mane Melody shows that she dislikes criticism, as she doesn't take it well when Posey gives the mane-styling Pipp gave her a moderate rating, and is terrified that Phyllis Cloverleaf will destroy her business with a terrible review. Sunny-Day Dinners shows that Pipp likes the idea of being scared, enjoying the "spooky" atmosphere at Prancing Point. In Portrait of a Princess, she says that spooky stories are among her favorite things. She also enjoys the Nightmare Night festivities in Nightmare Night Party and Haunted House, the spooky atmosphere of Bridlewood at nighttime in My Little Pony: Bridlewoodstock, and exploring the abandoned Canterlogic factory in Top Remodel (to the point of being disappointed to learn it isn't haunted). Pipp takes great pride in her appearance, and as such reacts poorly whenever she gets dirty or disheveled. Pipp also values her followers' admiration and affection, which can cause problems; In A Day in the Life, her need to keep her followers entertained by livestreaming her entire day leads to her overworking herself and falling ill (which Zipp implies happens all too often).
