ZOMBIES (Both common and special infected

The infected (in English, Common Infected), also known as walkers or also known by the military as Whiskey Deltas (Walking Deads) or Mike Victor (Muertos Vivientes) in the Spanish dubbing for using the radio alphabet, are the people who were infected by the Green Flu virus, being the main enemy of the survivors during the campaign. Sometimes they are called zombies, although this term is incorrect when referring to patients who are still alive, rather than reanimated dead people. They can be categorized into 4 groups COMMON INFECTED: Also generally known as "the horde", they represent the vast majority of the infected population and are the subjects who did not mutate due to the virus, having as changes the loss of their reasoning and superhuman agility that make them rabid and dangerous beings. Although it is easy to deal with a few using a gun, their power lies in the fact that they are all over the cities on the east coast and will not hesitate to attack those who are not infected or are carriers. Common infected are attracted by sound, so the activation of an alarm, explosions and any loud noise (not counting gunshots) will make a horde approach. This attraction to noise is a double-edged sword, since the beeping of homemade bombs makes these throwables a good decoy before the subsequent explosion. Also (for probable pheromone reasons) they are attracted by the Boomer's vomit and his bile bottles. They are not controllable in Confrontation mode. Normal infected come in a variety of guises of both sexes, such as civilians, patients, nurses, workers, military and airport personnel, etc. The differences are solely cosmetic, provided the subjects are not characteristically infected.

SPECIAL ZOMBIES

These infected are not very numerous, there are usually 1 to 4 per wave of infected. However, the individual danger they represent is greater than that of a common infected, since they are a small sector of the infected population that mutated as a result of the virus and received special abilities. When they attack together with a horde or with other mutations, good cooperation of the four survivors will be needed to defeat them (Witch and Tank above all). They are the special infected that we control in Clash and there are 8 types: Boomer: An obese infected person who can spray bile on survivors. This substance acts as a pheromone that attracts a large number of infected people to the affected subject. When the boomer dies, it explodes and expels bile into its surroundings, however, it cannot infect any infected person. Smoker: A tall, thin individual who uses his long tongue to trap his victims in order to keep them away from the group and can even suffocate them. When he dies, he leaves behind a thick curtain of smoke that distorts vision and causes survivors to cough, thus giving rise to his name. Hunter: Quite fast and agile. He leaps to great heights to hit prey and begin attacking them while they are on the ground, leaving them unable to defend themselves. He is the only infected who does not make noise while standing, so one cannot hear his growls until he is ready to attack.

SPECIAL ZOMBIES (2)

Witch: One of the most dangerous in the game and exclusively female. It is easy to notice her because of her loud crying and, unlike the other infected, she does not attack survivors unless they approach her, attack her, or shine a flashlight on her. She usually stays in a cool place in the dark, although outdoors she usually walks aimlessly. With just one blow from her long claws she incapacitates the survivor who bothered her and scratches him to death, being able to eliminate him instantly in Expert and Realistic mode. She is the only special infected not available in Confrontation. Tank: A being of great muscle mass and endurance, he is a nearly unstoppable beast that makes the ground tremble with his mere presence while moving like a hominid. He can grab and push heavy objects as part of his attacks and knock down a survivor with a few blows. The force of his fists sends anyone he hits flying, so you should never face him alone. Charger: His right arm is robust and gigantic, the other is small and useless. He is able to run at high speed to charge his prey like a bull and then hit a structure or simply stop and start crushing it against the ground. Apart from the tank, he is the only infected that is not affected by pushes, so doing this to free a teammate is useless. Spitter: Another of the 2 special infected that only exist in a female version, who according to Valve is the wife of the jockey. Her long neck allows her to spit a ball of acid from her stomach that expands when she falls and she can spit it a great distance. Contact with the liquid damages the survivors, causing more damage the longer they are on it. It is easy to know when there is a Spitter nearby thanks to the acid footprints she leaves when walking.

SPECIAL ZOMBIES (3)

Jockey: It looks like a giant louse that laughs like a hyena while jumping around. Its attack consists of jumping on the survivors and moving them as it pleases while hitting and scratching them, thus being able to take them out of the reach of its companions. Freeing someone from a jockey by shooting is complicated, since it never stops moving and the bullets can hit the victim by mistake.

CHARACTERISTIC ZOMBIES

They are a separate group from the common infected, as they also did not receive mutations after being infected. However, they are subjects that are distinguished from the horde due to an ability that is not related to the Green Flu. Like the common infected, they cannot be controlled in Clash. There are many types and there may be more than one per campaign: CEDA Agent: These are CEDA agents who were infected with the virus while wearing their Asmat suits. These suits are fireproof, making any strategy that uses this element to annihilate them useless. When they die, you can hear their suit deflate. They may carry jars of boomer vomit with them, probably to take to scientists and invent a possible cure. They are found in the Deadlock and The Sacrifice campaigns. Jimmy Gibbs Junior: He is a famous racing driver who also failed to avoid infection. He has the same health as a witch and his hits cloud your vision with motor oil, as well as being fireproof. We can only find him in the last map of Deadlock, although there is a very low chance of finding him (5%). Fallen Survivor: These were survivors who tried to protect themselves from the infection by preparing well, but eventually fell due to not being immune to the virus. They are well equipped, so survivors can take advantage of what they drop once they are downed. They are in the Shock Therapy, The Final Battle, and Demise campaigns. Clown: These are infected clowns who worked at Whispering Oaks Amusement Park. They wear huge shoes that make a noise when they walk, attracting more infected. If we hit them in the face, we will make their clown nose make a curious sound. We only find them in the Grim Fair.

CHARACTERISTIC ZOMBIES (2)

Construction worker: They are employees of a demolition company (in charge of dismantling the old Ducatel sugar mill) who were also attacked by the virus. They are wearing construction helmets and industrial earmuffs that make them immune to the noises emitted by homemade bombs. We will find them in the campaigns The Flood, Medical Discharge and Last Flight. Riot Police: Part of a private security firm hired by CEDA to keep order among the evacuees in New Orleans, but who also fell victim to the infection. They wear helmets and bulletproof suits that protect them from gunfire and hand-to-hand attacks, but only from the front, as they are unprotected from behind. Upon death they can drop police batons. They can only appear in The Parish. Muddy: These are infected that look like regular infected except they are covered in mud and use it as camouflage. They run on all fours, though they wobble on their feet when pushed. They also stand upright when idle. Their fast crawling allows them to run faster than regular infected, and water offers them no resistance. They can be found in Swamps, Turbulent Waters, and in the drains of Medical High.

CARRIERS

Of all the existing infected, one stands out that is different from all the others. This one does not have pale skin or mutations in his physical appearance; however, he is the most dangerous of the entire infected population. Also called carriers or incorrectly immune, they are people who were infected by the green flu virus and did not suffer its symptoms, so at first glance they are indistinguishable from a healthy patient. Since the infected attack non-infected civilians and carriers alike, it is difficult not to confuse them. It is known that, after the CEDA was revealed from the fight against the virus, the military began to look for carriers to study them and create a possible cure, which can be seen at the end of The Parish and in the comic The Sacrifice. It is through both means that we know that the survivors of Left 4 Dead 1 and 2 (the latter in a more subtle way) were carriers, explaining why the pilots of Medical Discharge and Fairgrounds became infected so quickly. Another fact worth noting is that in the same comic it is revealed that the gene that turns someone into a carrier is more prevalent among men and that is why there are few survivors. (in this section of infected you are carriers)
