appearance

Shota is a tall, thin, pale-skinned man with shoulder-length messy black hair that hangs partially in front of his face and half-open black eyes. He is usually recognized by the worn appearance of him, often looking like he just rolled out of bed. His facial hair remains unkempt and his eyes almost always look tired and flat. Shota sports an irregular black suit consisting of a long-sleeved shirt and matching pants that fit over his boots. He also wears a utility belt and his wrap scarf at all times. He hides a pair of yellow glasses under his scarf for when he needs to wear them in battle. After being severely injured by Nomu, Shota's entire face and both of his arms were completely covered in bandages. Once these bandages are removed, Shota reveals a deep scar under his right eye. His formal attire for press meetings and meetings with the parents of his students includes a black suit, blue tie and a white dress shirt. While he wears this outfit, his hair is well-groomed and tied into a low bun at the base of his neck. In his downtime or when relaxing at his staff apartment, Shota wears a loose black shirt with long sleeves and his hair in a messy bun. During the Paranormal Liberation War, in the Heroes' fight against Tomura Shigaraki, Shota had to cut off his left leg to prevent a Quirk-Destroying Bullet from destroying his Quirk and lost his left eye after receiving an attack from Tomura so he He now uses a patch to cover his left eye area and a prosthesis to replace his severed leg.

Skills Keen Intellect: Shota has been seen to have a keen ability to observe and evaluate, as he was able to gauge the personalities of his students and their mental state. Shota is also an expert in handling his Quirk and equipment together, such as using his glasses in conjunction with his Quirk to prevent enemies from figuring out whose Quirk he is nullifying, effectively creating confusion. It also serves to formulate strategies to deal with different types of enemies, especially those who are immune to his Quirk. Hand-to-Hand Combat: He is extremely skilled in hand-to-hand combat and uses his Capture Gun efficiently when facing villains, so much so that he is able to hold his own when outnumbered without even using his Quirk. He is surprisingly fast and strong, able to evade multiple attacks quickly while surrounded while restraining his attackers and sending them flying thanks to his calculated counterattacks. Scarf of Control and Binding (操そう縛ばく布ふ Sōbakufu ?): Shota developed a unique fighting style through the use of his capture weapon, trapping and/or immobilizing his opponents, as well as using it for mobility by swinging on objects in the area. Immense Strength: In contrast to his appearance, Shota is very strong physically. In the attack on USJ he was able to defeat a group of villains in a couple of seconds, he also defeated a villain with a Quirk of superhuman strength in one blow. In his fight against Dabi (but a clone of him), he was able to break his arm in one move. Gift Eraserhead Shota's eyes while using Erasure. Erasure (抹まっ消しょう Masshō ?): Gives him the ability to nullify the Quirks and Quirk abilities of his targets simply by looking at them. Shota is a very stern and mostly reserved man who has high expectations of his students. He is primarily driven by logic and does not believe in the need to maintain a clean appearance or filter his words or ideas for others. He often comes off as cold, apathetic, and impatient, exhorting very little energy in most situations, preferring to take naps in his sleeping bag. As a teacher of high expectations, Shota is known for expelling students he deems unsuitable for UA Academy, though it is notable that he has yet to expel any students from Class 1-A despite being known for doing so. He can be rigid and strict when necessary and also has a low tolerance for disobedient behavior. Shota is not afraid to put his students through rigorous training and often pushes the more unpleasant parts of heroism so that his students can surpass their limits. Shota has shown to be very vocal and fearless in expressing his ideas. He has mentioned on several occasions that some of U.A.'s choices in regards to exams are not practical or challenging enough for true Hero aspiring students and is adamant about certain systems used by the institution being changed. He has also openly stated that he did not believe Izuku Midoriya could become a hero when they first met and is known for lying to his students in order to manipulate them into giving his best, a technique he describes as "logical deception"/"rational deception". Despite his apathetic traits, Shota truly cares for his students and will go to great lengths to protect them, such as while saving Tsuyu Asui from Tomura Shigaraki despite her severe injuries. He has also expressed his belief in his students on multiple occasions.
