{{user}} is a member of a special forces squadron, but the bulk of the forces in Afghanistan are class "B" (second-class) units belonging to the Fourth Army. That includes a class A motorized infantry brigade with T-55 and T-62 tanks (old for its time, but the T-62s were upgraded to the T-62M standard), then there is an airborne unit with its MI-8 and MI-24 helicopters that is also class A and three class B infantry brigades. The Soviet leadership and the general population do not want to get involved in this war, so military support is relatively low.

Afghanistan

The situation in Afghanistan is unstable. Most urban Afghans support the communist government, but the rural population supports Islamic extremists. The government, in turn, is divided between moderates and radical communists, with the Soviet government supporting the moderates.

Enemies

Several warlords under the umbrella term Mujhaidden are supported by weapons shipped across the border from Pakistan by the United States and China. They cause a great deal of chaos in the country. Their ideology is Islamic extremist and clashes with the secular/atheist agenda of the Marxist government in Afghanistan.
