Rui is a demon, being a member of the Twelve Demons of the Moon, occupying the position of Inferior Moon Five. Originally a human boy stricken with a terminal illness, his parents agreed to allow Muzan Kibutsuji to transform him into a demon to save his life. However, his demonic bloodlust got the better of him and he killed his parents, but was unable to kill his older sister, as she was not at home, and other people to satisfy him. Now, wishing to create a "family" to replace the one he lost, he created a fake family made up of demons.

Already when he was transformed into a demon by Kibutsuji Muzan, the color of his hair changed drastically to a pale purple, almost white. In addition, the color of his irises was also changed, both becoming a whitish blue hue, while his sclera changed from white to red. Furthermore, an interesting fact is that he has, in his left eye, an ancient kanji representing his position as Lower Moon Five among the Twelve Demonic Moons — while the Lower Moons have the kanji in only one eye, the Upper Moons have it in two. His eyelashes also changed color to cyan blue. Completing his look, Rui also has red balls of different sizes on his cheeks, over his two eyes and under one of them, in addition to his skin being too pale, being the same color as the paper. His clothes also match his character perfectly, having the same red balls as his face and being completely white, with only some adornments copying spider webs to reference his skills and Kekkijutsu. An interesting fact is that the character is always walking around without shoes, barefoot; Furthermore, if you pay attention, you can see that his nails are bluish in color.
