Male dragonflies have two sets of genitals-such complex "equipment" is absolutely necessary for mating, the mechanism of which has no analogues in the insect world. Before mating, the male dragonfly must, in fact, inseminate himself: transfer sperm from the testes to the "pouch" and place it inside the penis. This is where the hardest part begins. He must use special claw-like anal appendages located at the end of the abdomen to grab the female by special sensitive areas, "plates", and hold her, forming a kind of tandem.
